Forums - Sony Discussion - Buying another PS3, need help.

I currently have the origional 60gig full backwards compatible PS3. My 1 year warranty is up in September, but before then I am thinking of buying the new MGS 80gig bundle to replace it.

Mainly because since the 60gig was discontinued and I don't care about backwards compatibility, I probably will find it impossible to replace if it ever breaks down and I can get as much money now out of my 60gig to purchase the MSG 80gig bundle. What do you guys think? Wise or dumb move:

Also if I get the new system do I get to keep my PSN ID - Kratos0518?

As long as you know your e-mail and password that you sign in with, You can keep your PSN ID.

Do you mean impossible to replace in a retail store? Because I'm pretty sure Sony will have plenty of service parts/systems to last a long time. And if the 60GB is scarce, won't the same be true of the 80GB soon enough?

If you truly don't care about backwards compatibility, get a 40GB model. And if you really don't care about the BC, and can really get enough money to buy a new one by selling your old one, then it's SMART because you are basically getting an extended warranty and Dual Shock 3 controller for free. (Assuming that the bundle has DS3, you can give the used buyer your Sixaxis that your old PS3 came with and thus basically be upgrading.)

My advice to fanboys: Brag about stuff that's true, not about stuff that's false. Predict stuff that's likely, not stuff that's unlikely. You will be happier, and we will be happier.

I have the most epic death scene ever in VGChartz Mafia.  Thanks WordsofWisdom!

you get bigger HD ,,,,better wifi and blue tooth connectivity,,,,full year warranty and DS3 controller,,,,

if you like MGS then definitely do it.

If, by selling your old system, you'll make enough money to buy an upgraded console with a free game and a better controller, I say GO FOR IT.

That's like trading in an old car for a new model AND an std free girlfriend. Sell it, Anakin. Sell it now!

So you're planning on spending $500 now in case your PS3 breaks sometime down the line where it wouldn't cost more than $150 to fix it?

Yeah, that's a brilliant plan.

Twes, he says he can sell the used 60 gig for more money than a NEW 80 gig with all the trimmings. If it's do-able, then it's a no brainer!

Yes, you can keep your PSN ID, just make sure to delete your account information off of your PS3 before you sell it.

We had two bags of grass, seventy-five pellets of mescaline, five sheets of high-powered blotter acid, a salt shaker half full of cocaine, a whole galaxy of multi-colored uppers, downers, screamers, laughers…Also a quart of tequila, a quart of rum, a case of beer, a pint of raw ether and two dozen amyls.  The only thing that really worried me was the ether.  There is nothing in the world more helpless and irresponsible and depraved than a man in the depths of an ether binge. –Raoul Duke

It is hard to shed anything but crocodile tears over White House speechwriter Patrick Buchanan's tragic analysis of the Nixon debacle. "It's like Sisyphus," he said. "We rolled the rock all the way up the mountain...and it rolled right back down on us...."  Neither Sisyphus nor the commander of the Light Brigade nor Pat Buchanan had the time or any real inclination to question what they were doing...a martyr, to the bitter end, to a "flawed" cause and a narrow, atavistic concept of conservative politics that has done more damage to itself and the country in less than six years than its liberal enemies could have done in two or three decades. -Hunter S. Thompson

I think that decision is rather strange. You are scared if the PS3 breaks you are not covered under warranty?!?

I mean if you took care of your PS3 this long ass time what makes you think something WILL happen to it now. If your 60GB PS3 is still running and still playing the PS3 games then why trade or exchange it to a 80GB. I mean you said you don't care for PS2 games (BC on the PS3). So thats clearly understandable but just for a warranty.

You my friend fail considerably hard :(

If you are going to exchange anyway. Yes you can keep your existing PSN ID. Just make sure you remember the login information (email address and password for that PSN ID).

why would you be able to get that kind of deal? Isnt the 80 gig model also backward compatible?
