It almost seems to me that Nintendo is only shipping as many consoles as it needs to maintain 60% market share and socking away any surplus Wii's for Game Launches and Holidays.

360 jumped up a lot in May, was that when the Halo 3 beta started?

this kinda sounds like trolling. what, do you actually think sony's just gonna fade away? hell, 2 flops in a row and N manage to pull through.

The difference is, even with their consoles flopping, Nintendo always managed to make a profit on them.

How did Nintendo collect a profit on the Gamecube. The price dropped to a hundred dollars very quickly and there were reports in Gamepro that The christmas that the gamecube dropped to $99, the Company lost 26.7 Million dollars so is that a profit?

Everybody in the gaming industry lost money in 2001 following the terrorist attack of 9/11 -- Nintendo's revenues 'only' hit $3.7B. However, its rock-bottom worst without that influence was actually 2003, when Nintendo's net sales were $4.2B with a net income reported of $561M (down from $802M the year before). This time period of 2003 is when the Gamecube prices were slashed and Nintendo took the budget-minded GC to China, which sounds like the era to which you're referring.

So, Nintendo's WORST year (2003) in the last decade still resulted in a $561M net income.

For the sake of comparison, EA's (the #2 publisher behind Nintendo) BEST year (2004) for this same time period resulted in a net income of $577M.

Nintendo has been successful in the video game industry for about 35 years now because they're just not in the business of losing money. It's that simple.

I remember reading that Nintendo only posted one quarter in the red for the last 2 decades, that was probably it.

Nobody is crazy enough to accuse me of being sane.

Nintendo only had one quarter where they didn't make profit

Predictions:Sales of Wii Fit will surpass the combined sales of the Grand Theft Auto franchiseLifetime sales of Wii will surpass the combined sales of the entire Playstation family of consoles by 12/31/2015 Wii hardware sales will surpass the total hardware sales of the PS2 by 12/31/2010 Wii will have 50% marketshare or more by the end of 2008 (I was wrong!!  It was a little over 48% only)Wii will surpass 45 Million in lifetime sales by the end of 2008 (I was wrong!!  Nintendo Financials showed it fell slightly short of 45 million shipped by end of 2008)Wii will surpass 80 Million in lifetime sales by the end of 2009 (I was wrong!! Wii didn't even get to 70 Million)

way things are heading, we could see a less than 100k worldwide month for the ps3 by the end of the summer.

For reasons stated above, I doubt we'll see the PS3 sales drop much further than where they are now.

In a few months, they will start to increase. I doubt they will increase enough to make a real dent in the market (compared to the other consoles' increases), but that's another topic entirely.
