Nintendo $50 price reduction

Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Nintendo $50 price reduction

Price reduction? - there's no reason, logic or incentive to Nintendo changing the price at this point whatsoever.

To me the only thing they should do in the near future is start bundling Wii Sports off with every Wii in Japan also as it represents a perfect demo on what the Wii can do so why wouldn't you want 100% of the Wii's userbase owning it?

That may even send sales up to a new level in Japan more so than a price cut.

@ jhonip

What Nintendo needs is to get their Players Choice line out so a select group of games can come in to stores with new stock and lowered price, as it would drive up game sales even more. Budget priced games works good for Wi.

And then they need to release/announce more games for the hardcore, maybe publish more third party games on there own (like Fatal Frame 4), and possibly buy a few exclusive games from third party's. Looks like some third party publishers has a hard time believing (or not wanting to be believe) in hardcore games selling good on Wii, so actions from Nintendo to make them believe can be good.

Or something. Wii is selling good, the only thing that can really get better is to up the overall qualety of the games for Wii with good games and get those games known to people so they will get bought.

jhonip, how old are you? I don't mean any offense but reading this thread makes me feel like I'm overhearing some junior high kid who is INSISTING that he is right while everybody else tries to talk him out of it.

hahahah I was thinking the samething after reading the first 3-4 of his replies, I actually think he is like 10 to 12 years old.( No Offense)

They wouldnt slash $50 off the console. Why would they reduce their profits when they can't even reach the level of demand for the console at the moment?

I hope my 360 doesn't RRoD

why wait, they should do it by fall.

that makes no sense, if you can still just marginly meet demand why would you want to increase demand and turn off potential buyers by not having the producct ready....thats just nonsense

Nintendo should only price drop once they have a large surplus of Wiis meaning that they have at least 5M in storage to sell and are about to increase production. Everyone keeps saying why would N do that they don't have to. If they did their lead in hardware would increase to such a point that no one can compete with it and signal that developers have to make the Wii the core system of this generation.

and the demand would be joined by the I want one but not at this price group who would probably play wii sports for a month or two then not switch it on after that.

Surely it's better that people buy it for the games rather than the price point.

@OP: Do you have any idea about the concepts behind the words "Demand", "Supply", "Market Saturation" and "Manufacturing (Including Supply Chain et al)"?

If not please read up on them, then think about them in the context of the Wii, and then you could actually make a post about this topic that is of interest.

Welcome to the sales analysis.

Thats the impression I am getting.  I still can't understand why, jhonip, you think lowering the price of the Wii would kill the competition, when the supply would stay the same.  When the Wii is basically selling everything that is shipping, a price drop would only hurt Nintendo's profits but in no way could sell any more consoles.
