MGS4 WILL be a system seller, probably due to the fact a few hundred thousand bundles have been pre-ordered

Thanks.....

So that takes care of week one.... what about after that? I say back to normal sales (normal being pre MGS3) within one month.

The point that MGS4 is included in with every 80gb PS3 sale is enough to give it legs.

Then perhaps the question should be, which is the better system seller? Wii sports or MGS4, lol.

The answer is Wii sports, but the question is pointless.

No, the question is bring to light the fact that if moving consoles or selling games can only be done to any great extent by bundling then it not only shows Sony and Konami's doubts of the game's success on the PS3 but desperate measures needed to sell a game that should more than be able to sell itself.

Because the reviewers didn't give MGS2 unecessaraly high scores either. The main difference here though is this game doesn't have the benefit of a successful console like the first three MGS games did. It will sell well, but don't expect it to sell anymore consoles than that its bundled with.

Let's not forget MGS4 will be going up against Super Smash Brothers Brawl in Others. Just another obstacle in the road.

There's no way it will move systems to anyone who wasn't considering getting a PS3 anyway.

No one outside the hardcore even knows what Metal Gear is.  My 63-year old mom knew GTA was out.  She knew Mario was out.  She knew Wii Fit was out.  She knew Halo was out.

The people that know what MGS4 is are the 3 millionof us who are on this site and IGN and kotaku and the like.  And most of us already have the console.  It'll do more for sales in Europe and Japan than in North America, but even there I think it's going to be a temporary and relatively minor boost.  You'll see the numbers jump as the hundred thousand in each market who know about this stuff waited for the bundle and the ultra fanboys pick up the special edition console.  And then the level will steady out.

The only way this changes is if this game is so mindblowingly unbelievable that it gets picked up by the mainstream media and you see stories about it on CNN and stuff.  And not just a legit 10 of 10.  A 12 out of 10 that shakes the foundation of the planet.  And it's not going to happen.

But so what?  We'll play it and love it and have fun with it, whether it sells 3 consoles or 3 million.

And Halo 3 is at least a 9.5/10, by the way.  Quit being a hater.  The people that understand this are the ones that get beyond the surface.  If you don't use forge and play custom games and play anything beyond team slayer and once through the campaign solo on normal, then yes, it sucks.  4-player co-op on legendary online with skulls on is awesome.  The ability to watch the whole campaign from any angle is awesome.  To watch any match from any perspective and take video clips and screenshots is awesome.  The ability to turn Foundry into virtually any map from any game ever designed and then to share it with the community is awesome.

People who say that the game offered nothing new - that it was Halo 2.5 - only looked at the surface.  Yes there's flaws, as in ALL console online shooters.  It is what it is.

From reading your posts over the weeks, I assume you don't own a 360, so you couldn't possibly know this, because even if you "played it at a friend's" it wouldn't give you the time to see all this stuff.  But it's there.

Quit being so Sony Defense Force-ish.  It gives all of us PS3 owners (and gamers in general) a bad name.

Can't we all just get along and play our games in peace?

Maybe the 80GB bundle is due to the fact that corporate heads know 90% of the people who are buying MGS4 already own a PS3. Perhaps this is there incentive to lure in new prospective consumers.
