Forums - Gaming Discussion - Is Nintendo driving a wedge in the core gaming community?

It seems that the direction that nintendo has taken this generation has brought up many a heated debate. First as a joke, then as a fad, now it would seem as the downfall of "true" gaming. But is that really the case? Is nintendo destroying what gaming is really about, or is their departure from the norm the next evolution in gaming, keeping the industry from heading down a dead end road of ridiculously high development cost and overly stale gameplay? Either way you can't dispute the fact that all gamers seem to have to be taking sides on the issue. So why such heated debate? Feel free to discuss, just remember that having an opinion is like having a big dick, sure its nice to have, but nobody wants it shoved down their throat every five minutes.

Well when you say it like that, I don't want an opinion at all.

Nintendo will eventually create more upmarket games after the downmarket wants games more challenging. Now they have an ever-growing userbase to work with.

Lol at your last sentence.

Anyway, I don't think Nintendo is at all causing the downfall of "true" gaming. Their actually making the hardcore userbase bigger since some casual gamers will eventually turn into hardcore gamers.

What a waste of 26 seconds to read it.

Especially the last sentence. That doesn't seem like a particularly good analogy.

The topic is very good to discuss, but the OP is very lackluster. Make it better with your opinion, some general insight, and a better analogy.

Nintendo this generation is doing what Sony did last generation. Supplying to the masses. All gamers out there. They've been doing it for years with games like Mario but now they are putting further emphasis on it. They are expanding the market for their own goals.

Destorying true gaming? Not a chance. This is just something fanboys use on the other sides to bring down the winning console. Remember if Wii was losing, there wouldn't be a single gamer that would say anything hateful about it. Why? Because why do you take down the losing console. It's not a threat to fanboys. People are very easy to read.

We've been over this before.

they moved in a direction that makes "core gamers" feel irrationally isolated.

they pretty much continued the boom that sony started (started and grew a bit). Make games fun for anyone to just have fun. nintendo used to rely on smart and easy game mechanics, but now they changed their philosophy to making games fun and fun alone.

This drew a lot of funding away from what the "core gamers" wanted. The ironic thing is that they have nothing to fear. They will always be a coveted market. They buy so many games its hard to ignore them at the very least. If developers start shifting their games to simple fun like nintendo has done, then developers who are left over will reap the benefits of a hungry market and thus draw devs back.

there might be a few less "core games" per year than before, but "core gamers" will be get their games.

my pillars of gaming: kh, naughty dog, insomniac, ssb, gow, ff

i officially boycott boycotts.  crap.

I like this new direction, as an adult i don't always have time to devote to a 50 - 60 hour game, lately i have left quite a few games half finished due to college. And now that i am on the job hunt and spending time with my GF i have even less time, oh well thats why i like this casual 30 minute game thing.

and Off topic, i have many strong opinions :P
