Forums - Gaming Discussion - One of the creepiest final battles made even creepier..by addition of clown

Giygas from earthbound is renowned as one of the creepiest last bosses in a videogame. His lovecraftian incomprehensibility (wow, my spellchecker agrees that is a real word) is only compounded by the fact that it was a fairly cute happy game until he came along. His dialogue Inspired by a rape scene in a movie that frightened and made a big impression on Earthbound creator Shigesato Itoi as a child just adds to the surreal horror that is Giygas. You thought the abstract monstrosity couldn't get scarier? Add a clown.

that makes me think of this...this is my creepy video

I didn't play that much of Earthbound but I am sure Gigyas was suppose to be obsessed with Ness in some way.

...and what movie was that? That frightened/inspired Itoi to develop the final boss scene?

"The next time someone tells you Compact Discs are the wave of the future, tell them the future doesn't belong to snails!" - Nintendo Power, April 1994

Ugh, I hate these Ronald McDonald things. Though it is impressive they could take something like the gygas fight and make it more disturbing.

I don't know the name of it but I know it had a really graphic rape scene

that's a pretty cool video too, mesoteto. Love aphex twin.

But back to giygas, earthbound even referenced lovecraft right before the fight with giygas. His body and mind having been destroyed by his own evil power, he was completely unaware of himself or his actions, completely irrational. Pokey calls him something along the lines of "The All-mighty idiot" referring to the lovecraftian god Azathoth the "Blind Idiot God". For such a happy game, it had some weird dark inspiration.
