Forums - Nintendo Discussion - So is it safe to say that Wii won the console war this gen?

For some hypocrite: Yes, Wii won this gen, PS360 win Next gen.

You mean that Sony and Microsoft will win the next generation?

How will they do that?

If you can give a satisfactory answer to that, I think that you should take it to microsoft or sony, present it, and they'll probably give you a job and have you starting before the day.

Right now, Nintendo Strategy>HD strategy.  Which means that they'll HAVE to come up with something new if they are to win next gen. Most likely though, they will either try to imitate nintendo (and alienate the old customers), or move away from the nintendo market (and loose next gen).

Unless you can come up with a great strategy for Sony and Microsoft, the future is looking pretty bleak for them.

Nope,not yet.Unless they attain 50% market share,then yes.

Hmm, just tell me, how do you expect Wii to lose this war? Cuase you say there's still a possibility Wii will not win...

Please answer me.

Current trends are not a reflection of future trends. What's popular today, isn't necessarily popular tomorrow, and their is still a couple more years left for this current gen.Even longer for Sony and the Playstation 3.
Well the Playstation brand was popular in the late 90's till 2005, so does it means that its their turn now? Like you said, "whats more  popular today isnt necessarily popular tomorrow" fits playstation perfectly.

Yeah that would be the case,if the PS3 wasn't stunted by its pricepoint(s).Even so,the PS3 continues to sell at a fast pace.So it's still popular, even at a $500/$400 pricepoint. Now if the PS3 was at a $300/250 pricepoint, who do you think would sell more;Nintendo or Sony?

Haha, even if they were priced the same the Wii would outsell the PS3. You don't see what's going on do you? We have a console that's SOLD OUT FOR ONE AND A HALF YEARS. I don't know what you're thinking, but that has nothing to do with price. It's a phenomenon. Do you seriously believe that all of a sudden no-one will buy a Wii anymore and everyone starts buying PS3's?
Let me tell you a secret.
For people like me, Young Urban Professionals, the price difference between Wii and PS3 is almost nothing. Still somehow all people I know have a Wii. It's the cool gadget to have.
For families with kids $250,- still means a lot of money, so they think very hard about what they buy. Still they spend their valuable money on a Wii.

GTA IV represents the biggest game the PS3 will see in its entire lifetime and it didn't do sh*t for PS3's sales.

I don't have a clue how you can even think that the PS3 will somehow transform into the new PS2. IT's just not going to happen. Right now it barely escapes Gamecube sales.

No, it's not safe.......... it has great chances, but let's not rush.
Although, if I were bet in the future, that would certainly be the hand to go all in.

It's sad to see people like Bleu want to completely ignore facts. But, it's amazing how he turned a con for the Wii into a pro for the Ps3.

Something that's popular today, isn't popular tomorrow was a good one. Even though the Wii has been selling out since 2006 and it is now 2008, what was popular yesterday still isn't popular today.

Bleu, again,go to sleep.

Overall, it's games library is still piss weak unfortunately.

So much so, that Wii owners have resorted to hyping up grabage like The Conduit >_>

Crossing fingers for E3 though :)

Once again, when Wii sales dominance pops up, here comes somebody to "get back" at Wii fans with a low blow, to keep them from winning entirely.

Spoiler alert: We love the Wii games we have and the ones coming out soon. We already won entirely. If you would just ignore our happiness and not try to spoil it with foeboy talking points, that would be great, but either way, really.

To the moon!

No, don't get me wrong, I love Wii. It's my favourite console this gen :)

It's just that it has like two decent looking games coming out for the rest of the year.

Guitar Hero IV, E3 game, Fragile, Fatal Frame IV, and Tales of Symphonia.

Those would be my planned purchases if I owned a Wii.

Well see, there's your problem. All of those games except for Guitar Hero are either planned for 2009 or likely won't see release in PAL regions....or both....

The fact: Wii mostly sells $500/600 as a bundle, you rarely see it as $250, but still it got supply shortage.

Wii once outsold PS3 8 times even with Xbox 360 combined in Japan.

Wii out sold 3 times PS3 & Xbox 360 combined in America last week.

Poor PS3 Sales Means Smaller Losses

"Actually, because the number of units sold was not as high as we hoped, the loss was better than our original expectation," Quotes from Sony’s CFO Nobuyuki Oneda.

There aren't many ways Wii could fail at this time. However, they still exist. First, if people somehow stopped liking it. If it was only a moment (kinda long one though) people like it. I don't believe that though. Second, there seems to be demand for PS3. Its greatest disadvantage is probably its price. Once the price drops and some more casual games come out, it has a good chance of catching up with Wii. That's, of course, only if it happens in time. And third, the last, HD gets common quickly and people want to take advantage of it.

At the moment it's impossible to say anything. It is pretty clear that unless MS manages to do something miraculous, it's between Wii and PS3. Right noe it would seem Wii is going to win but I wouldn't be so sure about it. Playstation is still a huge brand. Sony just needs to get the price down and casual games out to get in the competition and they have a chance to win. I'd say they need to hurry if they are to beat Wii, though.

Nothing's sure yet. We should wait a year or two before saying anything. Preferably two.

Not likely, did you saw the sales of DS? When Granny & Soccer Mom stop supporting Wii, it already reach 100 million like the DS.
