1/ Its the best (only?) digital weight tracking system ever created, that is easily available to the public.

2/ Its innovative, in that whereas there have been "pressure" controllers before - there has never really been a "balance" controller before.

4/ It DOES help lose weight AND build muscle. You are simply wrong in your comments. How so? Well, we could start a new thread based on this alone:

    - its more convenient than going to the gym, less time wasting and a lot cheaper

    - the user gets '1-1' feedback, rather than just being a single person in a workout class of 20 people

    - by adding "game-ness" & "fun" to exercise, it encourages gamers to use it. This I think is the core element of it. Its intentionally part-game & part-exercise. If it was all-exercise, it would be a chore - rather than fun. If it was all-game, it wouldn't be different from anything else.

    - the muscle exercises in the game are HARD, and DEFINITELY help build muscle. I have slowly been getting into them, because they actually intimidate me :P

...

More than anything else, the game helps with awareness - of diet, exercise, posture, balance (etc). I have found my habits are already changing thanks to WiiFit.

Will buying WiiFit turn you into a muscle man, or fitness junkie? No.

Wii buying (and using) WiiFit improve your fitness or health? If used regularly, almost definitely.

1- There are scales that track weight...

2- I believe there was one for the NES actually.  the name of it eludes me atm though

4- my points still stand.  you failed to illustrate how they were wrong.  perhaps you missed some of my points, so please read through all my posts in this thread.

You failed to address the topic of the thread.  whether or not wiifit is a fad.

Doesnt interest me and tbh im slightly baffled why others are. I had a look at some information about the game...all the activities within it appear to be fairly simple things which dont look very "fun" and wouldnt help someone lose weight or build muscle outside those with severe problems. most of the exercises can be done without its board. bmi is notoriously unreliable. yet people flock to this thing...

Have people just been got up in hype? Will the success last or fade away shortly? (if you own it, please state so before answering questions)

Just because you don't understand or don't like a game doesn't make it bad.  I hate the MGS series but I still completely respect them as good games.  People like Wii Fit (myself included) and that's all you need to know.

The activities at first do seem silly and easy but it is a work out.  After the first day I was sore and it just plain is a nice work out.  Another amazing thing is I've been gone all this weekend and I get home only to notice the fiance (who hates games) has used it everyday and was even excited to tell me she unlocked things.

Just accept different things make different people happy.

I didnt say it was bad.   I explained my thoughts and asked questions.  Which you didnt answer btw.

Yes but not to the extent of Wii Fit. The program does a daily graph of your weight and BMI rating so you can see how much weight you've lost (if any) over time.

2- I believe there was one for the NES actually.  the name of it eludes me atm though

There was not one on the NES, but there was a piecec of shit barely working balance board made by Amiga for the Atari 2600.

4- my points still stand.  you failed to illustrate how they were wrong.  perhaps you missed some of my points, so please read through all my posts in this thread.

He gave 4 examples of how you were wrong. I guess you should reread his post.

You failed to address the topic of the thread.  whether or not wiifit is a fad.

You failed to make a topic that was anything but flamebait. He tried to make a reasonable argument out of it and you turned around and of course flamed him for it. Great Job getting the thread back to where you wanted it.

Balance board != scale

apparently you failed to read the title as well as the post. i didnt say it was a fad. notice the question mark. that implies a question rather than statement.

Well, your questions were answered earlier in the thread so I didn't see much of a need to repeat them. But if you really want me to:

  • Yes, I do own Wii Fit.
  • BMI isn't the best thing but it is a way to track your results that is based on the person. If they did something like just track weight it would have no way of guessing if you were under or over weight. With BMI, while not quite reliable for really young people or body builders that might not care anyways, you get something you can track and see how you compare.
  • Like I mentioned above, just because they don't look fun to you, doesn't mean everyone thinks the same thing. There really isn't any more explaining needed there.
  • I don't know where you got your facts, I'm guessing one of the quacks paid to speak against Wii Fit with absolutely no facts, but they are just wrong. The game is an exercise (a good one actually) and you do lose weight, increase balance, and even increase muscle. It's perfectly fine to ask questions but if you try to state facts it would probably be better to do more research first.
  • Yes, most games can be done without the board but then you wouldn't have the faux personal trainer and stack tracking. I could always play a lot of games without the fancy HD graphics yet we still have those. I could play Super Mario Galaxy without motion controls yet we still have that.
  • I think it will last; just look at Japan.
Is that good enough for you?

Well, I wasn't sure what the exact definition of fad was. I mean, I have my own definition, but I turned to google and typed "define fad"

First one it came up with:

Definitions of FAD on the Web:

* Skin inflammation caused by a reaction to flea saliva, typically on the back and rear of a pet.
www.muelleranimalhospital.com/glossary.htm

And um, no, Wii Fit doesn't appear to be a skin inflammation.

* interest followed for a time with exaggerated zeal, craze.
www.createforless.com/advice/gl_trending.asp

This is pretty much my definition as well. You can't measure a fad by how well the general populace grabs onto it. You measure it by how long you stay with it.

I have Wii Fit. And it's fun. I really enjoy it. But I also am very realistic about things, and I figure within about 2 months, it'll be sitting on the shelf waiting for something new. That's a fad. Fad diets aren't necessarily the most popular ones at the time, it just means a diet you don't stick to. So yes, I'm calling my brand new Wii Fit a Wii Fad.

I really, really liked the jogging on it, especially since I was able to go jogging even though it was raining. But I'm going to need better scenery than some low res graphics. And no, I'm not talking about hi res 3-d rendered graphics. I think it could be done as a combination of detailed pics with some 3d models. Like an enhance version of google's street view. It would be super cool if they could merge the two. You plan a route, it downloads all the pictures and then you go jogging that route. But do some precaptured ones as well. Like jogging the streets of italy, or through the Io needle trail in Hawaii. Maybe along the beach with baywatch models leading the way or jogging the opposite direction... You get my drift.

I'm pretty sure most of it will grow old quickly. I'm already bored of the hula hooping, and I've only had it 3 days. But I guess hula hooping was a fad too, wasn't it?

Str8knox

they fail far less than your posts it seems.  perhaps its just a problem reading, as you apparently didnt read either thread correctly.  having a discussion about a game on the wii doesnt equate to bashing the wii, you troll.  if you have nothing to add stay out of the thread.

Roll and Rocker for the NES

If you feel those points illustrated how my points were wrong, please post which points of mine were shown to be wrong

if you wish to troll stay out of the thread.   if having a discussion about a game offends you, then you are just an ignorant fanboy, so please dont post in my threads anymore.  and there was no flaming of him on my part.
