MGS4 Installation is not a one-off deal?

Forums - Sony Discussion - MGS4 Installation is not a one-off deal?

I don't understand why developers rely so much on installs. What happened to the streaming extravaganza that is Uncharted? Ratchet & Clank? Come on people!

as long as it dont take ages then i aint the one to complain

My only question is why???
Whats the purpose of this (Well before every act, and we don´t know how many are) installations, are small 100mb-500mb??? Why don´t put all in the first installation?? Maybe most of the game (25Gb) needs to be on the HDD and doing this they assure nice level of gameplay without popups or some kind of freezibng time... Oh man, I don´t know, but really want to know why...

By me:

Can't they just do it while a cutscene is playing?

I was thinking the same thing.... although don't cutscenes themselves usually need to load too. (not a install load a normal load)

Well, I don't wanna spoil anything but the mag says that you get to play with something (not play in the traditional sense but more like watch) while the installations progress.

That's good, as it breaks up the time for the install.

For example, i would much rather have 10 3minute installs than one 30minute one.
Even better, it means the install file will be much smaller.
