Forums - Sony Discussion - MGS4 Installation is not a one-off deal?

Something caught my eyes from the PTOM review of the game (see this thread) <- *possible spoilers in the review*

Here is a quote from Page 40 (first column, the beginning of the second paragraph):

Surprises begin right from the moment the game starts (after the install process, which also happens before the starts of a new act).

So the installation process is not a one-off thing? :(

thats not a bad thing, it means that it replaces the old file with a new one taking up less space.

Are we talking about preloads or installation? And did they mention how long it takes for the "installation" of each new act?

Yeah, but it's kinda strange...

I get their good intentions of making the initial process shorter (and taking less space I presume) but I would just prefer one single installation process.

But I won't complain as long as I can enjoy the game :)

They didn't say how long it takes up until that page but I stopped reading shortly afterwards since they were beginning to mention some of the story elements. However, they said you will have 'things' to keep you entertained while you wait so I imagine it would be a bit lengthy.

I've defended mandatory installs in the past solely based on the fact that it's supposed to speed up wait times WHILE i play so I get a smoother and better experience. If it takes a long time for this "pre-act" installation to happen every time then I've lost hope (not in the game itself, but the design decisions and programmers).... hopefully this is either false news, they're confusing installations with preloads/saving or the installations are seamlessly fast.

Seriously, all depend on "how long and how frequent is it ?"

We can only make speculations for the moment ...

Time to Work !

It's a good think if you have to wait a minute for loading between each act, to spead up and stream in game load times.

It's a bad thing if you have to do 15 minute installs 4 times during the course of the game.

Until I play it, I can't comment on this.

I don't need your console war.
It feeds the rich while it buries the poor.
You're power hungry, spinnin' stories, and bein' graphics whores.

NO NO, NO NO NO.

Can't they just do it while a cutscene is playing?

Oh no, everyone run for the hills, install times = awful games!!!!!

Who cares, you can take a small break from MGS 4, I am sure you will live. Anyway, if they did replace your old file, wouldn't that be slightly annoying as you can't just go and replay a chapter at any time

If true, it may not necessarily be replacing your files but rather adding to them. So instead of, say, installing the 4.6GB in one sitting, you get to install 2.6GB at the beginning for instance and then 500MB before each of the acts. So, when you finish the game, you will have everything installed and ready.

On the bright side, your initial wait is reduced.
