under Pros you forgot larger potential market because the Wii is actually a commercial success
ElRhodeo said: I know I've posted this before, but dismissing Nintendo consoles as "kiddie" is ridiculous. I am 28 years old, many of my friends are the same age and own a Wii. When I see a pointlessly violent video game, it puts me off. Makes me think of loud, dumb, annoying 15 year olds that get on my nerves when I ride the subway. This week I gave "Bully" a try; half an hour in, I got involved in my first fist fight. Near the end I was asked to perform some motion to "humiliate" my opponent - when I did it, the character spat into his hand and rubbed it into the other kid's face. I asked myself "what the FUCK am I playing here?", ejected the disk and put it on ebay. If that's what you mean with "mature gameplay", then yes, I hate it, I don't want it on my Wii. Feel free to call me a kid and yourself an adult. |
Bravo, well said! An awful lot of what gets called adult fare in this business is actually adolescent fare. The industry has produced very little in the way of true adult games outside of Wii Fit. Fortunately Nintendo produces a lot that's enjoyable by all ages because its challenging enough to keep us interested but also a game we can play with our children.

I don't see what this all has to do with sales though.

* Not really. First of all, the short loading times (they are still there, since even carts have loading) just applies to the PS3 version. And the Wii uses some of the RAM as a disc buffer (since the GC did), so the loading would actually be almost as good as the PS3 version.
A flashy-first game is awesome when it comes out. A great-first game is awesome forever.
Plus, just for the hell of it: Kelly Brook at the 2008 BAFTAs
If GTA IV got a Wii version as well it would have sold more copies than the other two and the whole Wii-hate weeks we lived wouldn´t even have happened. That´s what I think. Although, when I remember how bad mature games do generally on the Wii, I suppose it would also be the case with GTA IV. But then you have a title like RE4 that did extremely well on the Wii but that actually was a last-gen game. Instead of contradicting myself, I´ll just say that I can´t predict it.
