Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Is Nintendo going to right direction?

Let me make this clear, if 3rd parties stop making the games you like, Nintendo would only be the cause of that if they offered something that the buyers of those games like better than those games themselves.

Otherwise, it would be something like escalating costs, or market saturation, which Nintendo would have nothing to do with.

A flashy-first game is awesome when it comes out. A great-first game is awesome forever.

For the 1000th time:

Wii is not killing any genre/gaming.

Why is that hardcore gamers think that only parrty games can sell in the wii? see the figures you'll find out that's far from true.

I already made a similar answer in another post so I'll copy-paste it again (yeah I am lazy):

NOBODY gave a cent about the wii. That's why all the "best" 3d party games like Resident evil 5, the prince of persia and Mortal Kombat vs DC and many others weren't planned for the wii/revolution. All the companies really though that the wii was going to lose and the PS360 were going to win like the past generation.

But then everything had a very drastic change: the ps3 was on 3d place, the xbox was on 2d and *gasp* the wii was on 1st. and it have been this way for 2 years.

Nobody expected it. So, they are now trying to figure out what to do. GTA4 sold fine in its first weekend but is now slowing very fast. And that was the game that was going to save the HD consoles.

They thought that making crappy mini games compilations was the solution and find out that it wasn't.

They said that "boohoo nintendo owners just play nintendo games". No. Nintendo owners play WELL MADE games.

The true is that Nintendo gamers are used to high quality games not only pretty looking ones. And that's the exact opposite of what 3d parties does. That's why they hate the wii because they make them THINK HARDER AND DIFFERENT.

This will be a year of change for the 3 consoles. And yes, it will take more time than usual for the wii to have better 3d party support. More than the PS1.

But what's the hurry anyway? It was Nintendo's plan to take things slowly with the wii since the beginning.

So hardcores, keep saying that wii just sells to casuals. You're just making a fool of yourselves. And that's fine.

they will stop making the games i like because they will be making more money making games i dont like as much. It will be profitable to these 3rd parties to make a fun with smaller developmant cost on a bigger userbase.\ look at this : mario and sonic : 4 million sold, soso game , probably cheap to make equals to tons of profit for sega Uncharted: beautiful, best game on ps3, expensive to make , sold less than 2 million equals less profit. If i am a developper , which would i choose to make?

OK I am going to say this here. I am sick of hearing about how Nintendo is killing HD gaming. This is glaringly wrong and baseless for at least two reasons.

1. There are HD consoles out there right now and they are selling better than last gen. If Nintendo had made an HD system we would have had less consoles sold this gen annd how many people are saying the PS2 is killing HD gaming even though it is still selling well? Not many from what I can see. Nintendo may be stymieing HD gaming at worst it is delaying it which brings me to my next point.

2. Nintendo will make a HD gaming console next gen so they can not be killing it. They will be making one when it is more affordable. There wasn't much of a point when the Wii was introduced most TVs were SD and many still are in 5 years the story will be different and the demand higher for HD gaming for a few reasons.
a. Most channels are still in SD many people can't even tell the difference right now. However as exposure to HD increases many people will notice it and will want higher def. This will not happen over night but it will eventually happen. Right now it is just bigger and flatter.
b. The increased exposure comes not only from the introduction of HD sets but in fact as the number of sets that are released increases the amount of HD programming will. As this happens more more people will be watching HD and become accustomed to it as the norm instead of fancy or special. When this happens the demand for HD in all things will increase. Also a factor is the ability to broadcast less lossy HD through cable and satellite systems so that 720P will look as good as they can.

On topic: I do believe Nintendo is headed in the right direction at the right time. HD gaming is niche and expensive comparatively at the moment. By focusing on changing consoles inputs at this time they aren't hurt as sales show. Next Gen you will see a larger graphical jump because of cost and reduced die sizes at a time when mainstream users want HD. Since these are consoles for TVs the most it will be is 1080P . Both Sony and MS already put out 1080P but in still very strained or unique games. However in 2012 game systems should do this cheaply. So Nintendo took a risk and went to change gaming inputs as a result it hasn't hurt anybody all that much and next gen we will see somethign a little different than just Haze now at 1080 instead of 576P.

"Wii is not killing any genre/gaming."

I don't think Wii is killing anything.

Also, Mario Kart does take skill, try and beat my brothers ghost on Waluigi's stadium. Time trials will own you.

Finally, yes, the Nintendo is going in the right direction. It was either this or GCN/death, and frankly, I'm really excited about their current direction as are the millions who purchase their console each month.

I don't need your console war.
It feeds the rich while it buries the poor.
You're power hungry, spinnin' stories, and bein' graphics whores.
I don't need your console war.

NO NO, NO NO NO.

Why didn't The Blair Witch Project kill big budget blockbuster movies then?

The truth is that (like all entertainment industries) executives in the videogame industry know that you need to produce a variety of games in order to appeal to different demographics to minimize the risk of development. As long as the games you like can turn a healthy profit they will be made; if they can't turn a profit it is unlikely that they would have been able to turn a profit had the Wii not existed.

I'm sure you can beat your brother in a race rite? You just need luck and cheap weapons!!!
