Forums - Gaming Discussion - Wow... Ocarina of Time conveniently loses review source on Gamerankings

It's listed as a 9/10 on their own website. The only Retro 10's are Super Mario Bros and Tetris.

The usual conspiracy theory but what about the issue that Galaxy got two new reviews this/last week?

WoW. OoT went down, PS3 version went down.

It seems Cubed3 genuinely has changed their review for a 9.9 to a 9, I'm guessing they changed their scoring system and it rounded all of their reviews down.

Thats what the difference seems to be, a review changing from 99 to 90.

So it's not a Gamerankings conspiracy?

We don't provide the 'easy to program for' console that they [developers] want, because 'easy to program for' means that anybody will be able to take advantage of pretty much what the hardware can do, so the question is what do you do for the rest of the nine and half years? It's a learning process. - SCEI president Kaz Hirai

It's a virus where you buy it and you play it with your friends and they're like, "Oh my God that's so cool, I'm gonna go buy it." So you stop playing it after two months, but they buy it and they stop playing it after two months but they've showed it to someone else who then go out and buy it and so on. Everyone I know bought one and nobody turns it on. - Epic Games president Mike Capps

We have a real culture of thrift. The goal that I had in bringing a lot of the packaged goods folks into Activision about 10 years ago was to take all the fun out of making video games. - Activision CEO Bobby Kotick

So where was all this bravado about OoT scores when it got reviewed a week before GTA IV came out? I didn't see anyone crying about how gamerankings sucks and/or is rigged.

hrm...

Good question.

This is exactly what happened. In years past, Cubed3.com included decimals in their review scores, and OOT had received a 9.9/10 score. This can be proven by looking at some of their past reviews, such as Resident Evil (US import review). That game now has a score of 9/10, but if you read all of the comments from years past, you'll find some where the commenters are talking about how impressed they are with the 9.9 score that game just got. And on the second page of those comments, you see where someone specifically mentioned that OOT had a 9.9 on that site. and was therefore content that the 9.9 score for RE didn't go beyond OOT's score.

So when the site was reformatted, the decimal values were just stripped - not rounded.

I find it unlikely that the original reviewer would have opted for a 9/10 over a 10/10 if those had been his only two choices. It was clear from the review that he felt it was the best game of all time. I think we should write to the Cubed3.com staff and ask them to reconsider rounding this from 9.9 down to 9. There's a fair amount of publicity at stake!

Wouldn't it be more logical to round up 0.1 decimal than round 0.9 down? As for 3 of those sites, which don't have reviews, why are they even there? After 10 years, review numbers don't change. It doesn't make sense.

You think this coincides with the recent April NPD numbers?  Just another website that lost credibility.

Leatherhat on July 6th, 2012 3pm. Vita sales:"3 mil for COD 2 mil for AC. Maybe more. "  thehusbo on July 6th, 2012 5pm. Vita sales:"5 mil for COD 2.2 mil for AC."

Both Metacritic and Gamerankings are load of crap. Do not take them too seriously.

You guys want proof??? Use the wayback machine!!!

check it out:
http://web.archive.org/web/*/http://www.gamerankings.com/itemrankings/simpleratings.asp?rankings=y

then just pick a date. August 29th shows OoT at 97.7 with 32 reviews.

Cube3d went from 9.9 to 9 . ..

If the new score for OOT had a legitimate reason, I wonder what the reason is for the new position/score for the PS3 GTAIV.
