Custom button configuration, phuck yeah, nice update :)

How much ROM has the Wiimote? Like 4KB am I right? That should be enough to store a button configuration...

 Its not a matter of space, its a matter of what the wii will allow to be written to the remote.

I can definitely see the value in persisting customized button mappings, but why not simply use Miis instead of names? Strikers uses them... Also, if Strikers shows the road to Nintendo's online way, the lack of Miis spells no online mode for Smash Bros.

As to the Wii-mote, 4Kb seems more than enough for one game, but if every game wanted to use it... All of the sudden it'd be far too little, and there seems to be no managment interface for that memory (like there is for the internal Wii memory, SD cards, etc).

Reality has a Nintendo bias.

Have you all noticed that Pit, Meta Knight, and Wario were Trophys in Melee.....

 but if you limited each game to 100B, which is more than enough for button mappings and other individual user settings, then you'd be able to transfer settings for roughly 40 games. With only 12 buttons + 1 joystick on the nunchuck/wiimote combo it would only take 13B to store a mapping. And then if you were to store guestures, you could store 1 guestures per Byte. We'll say about 20 guestures total in a given game, so another 20B. You're looking at a complete mapping only taking roughly 35B to store, with another 65B for some form of game/user identification tag, or other settings.

With a decent memory management system this would work. I personally don't think i'd ever take more than 1-2 Mii's, and maybe 6-7 button mappings with me, and in the end i'd still have space left over. Even if you did use all 4KB the settings and Mii's would still all be on your home console.

 also while writing this i thought to check something out and found this.

Wikipedia:

The Wii Remote contains a 16 KiB EEPROM chip from which a section of 6 kilobytes can be freely read and written by the host.[27][32] Part of this memory is available to store up to 10 Mii avatars, which can be transported for use with another Wii console. At least 4000 bytes are available and unused before the Mii data. Pokémon Battle Revolution also utilizes this memory.

 so yea, looks like they probably will be able to store button mapping, even though i couldn't find how pokemon used the internal memory.

Update: Wario's Special Moves

<Side Special Move: Wario Chopper>

Wario’s side special move is the Wario Chopper. He jumps on and starts racing!

Vroom! Vroom!

Tilt the Control Stick in the opposite direction of your movement to pull a 180. Use an attack button to jump off.

Axle turn!

Only one motorcycle will appear on screen, so if you fall off, run back up to it and climb on again.

Where’s my hog?!

<Down Special Move: Wario Waft>

Oh, and Wario’s down special move is the Wario Waft. That is to say, he passes gas.

This particular special move builds up power the longer you go without using it.

If you haven’t held it in, it’ll be a cute little poot.

But when you hold it in as much as you can...?!

In this case, patience really is a virtue.

Bet with disolitude: Left4Dead will have a higher Metacritic rating than Project Origin, 3 months after the second game's release.  (hasn't been 3 months but it looks like I won :-p )

Ok...I didn't care about Wario.

Now I think he's effin amazing. The bike sounds cool...it looks like others can try to steal it perhaps...maybe they can only pick it up and try to throw it away... and I bet Wario can't get another bike until he's died and come back.

And the fart is amazing haha.

Hearing Sakurai say "cute little poot"? How is that not comic gold.

BAHAHAHAHAHA

OMG that is the funniest line ever..... these updates are fucking awesome, I love looking forward to the hilarity every day, who cares if they aren't great revelations about the game as such, it's the comedy that I love and it feels like 'old' Nintendo. Remember the old comedy in the manuals that just isn't there any more?

BAHAHAHAH oh god I love potty humour (anyone else Terranc and Phillip fans?)

maybe he could do a rocket jump to reach unreachable platform with that... poot

Good update very very good update. Wario just shot up my list of who to play with first. BTW he used a Wario Waft to do it lol. Man, that's cool

Yeah good update. I wonder if his Wario Waft explodes if you use fire by it :P
