In the US..... It WILL be Wii>360>PS3 nobody can now tell me with any reasonable evidence that it will be any other way... and ranting about "wait until MGS4 and wait until Killzone 2 and wait until LBP...home.... etc etc etc" will not change anything. The 360 can't do anything to stop the Wii just flying past and into the distance. The PS3 won't catch the 360 in the US and the 360 won't pull away much either when the difference monthly is so close either way. So Wii wins by a long way and 360 v PS3 difference stays roughly as it is.... Maybe gaming is becoming too much like other entertainment forms.. More people buy Britney Spears CD's than Arcade Fire CD's and more people went to see Transformers than The Big Lebowski..... ah well. |
While the Wii looks set I think there is plenty of evidence that the 360/PS3 battle is anything but settled - and I mean that either way. Right now PS3 is outselling (just) 360 but if trends continue (remember its much newer to market) then the gap will grow over each consoles lifetime with the 360 dipping first (as the oldest) allowing further time for PS3 to catch up. Also, attach rates and sales of PS3 versions of big titles (including GTA) indicate its only exclusives (on either side) that are now likely to make a big difference (from a pure games perspective). Other factors include speed and penetration of online, on-demand (media) plus BR - right now I think 360 is way ahead with live but PSN seems to be coming up fast and Home is an unknown quantity that could have no influence or be a big hit I think MS still has advantage in US, but it is not an unassaible one I think (i.e. by Sony). Again though, Wii looks uncatchable at this point and there is little evidence to indicate anything to the contrary either. |
Thats what I said.... well nearly... basically you cant come up with any concrete reason for the PS3 to catch, I actually think that Blu-Ray may hold it back... How can Sony drop the price of the PS3 to very low levels beneath that of stand alone Blu Ray players... Surely that will eat into their profits even more by increasing the loss per console on each PS3 sold and kill their stand alone player business.... Catch 22 PS Home is the biggest red herring of this generation in my opinion. |
I do think 360 looks good to hold onto 2nd place for a long time in US, but I did give evidence that its not a forgone conclusion yet. PS3 average weekly sales are now higher than 360 at an early stage in PS3 lifecycle vs 360 and it has a good slew of exclusives still to come that are popular (MGS, FF and GT).
Home I have no idea I'm just saying its more of a wild card right now.
BR may help too but only if BR sales start to take off. As for cost PS3 is a good BR player but standalones will be better over time for sure while Sony has plenty of experience in cutting costs (it is an electrnics company after all, and should be able to better cut costs/control Q&A than MS really).
I agree with what you said on Wii, but I think you're taking to sure a stance on 360/PS3 in US based on current status.
You may well be right - but its not a done deal just yet.
