Forums - Gaming Discussion - Is EA finally understanding the Wii?

Last week I finally bought my first EA game for the Wii, Boom Blox. And i must admit that I am truly enjoying it.

After one and a half years of uninspired shovelware, EA is finally being forced to play Nintendo's game if it wants to remain one of the biggest publishers in the industry. Up to now, EA just did not understand how to do this and has failed miserably in appealing to Wii gamers. But with Boom Blox, EA has been forced to think out of the box to appeal to a much wider demographic than it has had to in the past. Though this game may not sell like a Nintendo game, EA has proved to me that they are at least wiling to try something different, be it thanks to Mr. Spielberg.

I am very curious to see how they progress from here. Early IGN previews of Skate It suggest that EA is making good progress in using the unique features of the Wii and DS. But will EA be able to constantly reinvent itself by repeatedly delivering new gaming experiences?. This is a company that makes most of it revenue from graphically upgraded iterations of previously released games.

Love Nintendo or hate Nintendo, in the last few years they have totally reinvented the gaming experience and many in the industry have been caught off guard. Not only are publishers forced to be innovative with every game in order to stand out on the Wii with its large user base, but soon gamers on the PS3 and X360 will be demanding similar levels of innovation in games aimed at the hardcore audience. I think the quality of gaming is going to peak over the next few years, (though sadly, so will the amount of shovelware) and I for one can't wait to see what's in store for us.

They make more money on Wii shovelware.

"Why isn't samus in a mario kart game?"

I hope boom blox really sells well.

It would give a sign to EA to develop good innovative games!

Just buy this awesome game!

Between MySims, Boom Blox, The Godfather, and Tiger Woods Golf EA has actually done fairly well with the Wii ...

EA was one of the first to announce support for the Wii because they saw value in trying to limit the exploding development costs; being that many of their franchises have (pretty much) static sales increased development costs mean lower profits for EA. Unfortunately, I think EA is as guilty as most publishers in underestimating the Wii and reacting with poor results after the fact as is demonstrated by most of the other games they have released.

EA is making really good games for Wii, Mysims is a million seller and it's awesome!! :)
a game full of happiness!! C:

i haven't tried boom blox yet, but from what i see, it should be cool!!

they need to make another MySims game, MySims pets for example, as it has sold more than 1 million on both systems, Wii and Ds!!

EA has been the best developer outside of Nintendo on Wii.

SSX Blur, Godfather, Metal of Honor:Heros 2, Tiger Woods, and on another level MySims and now Boom Blox are some of the finest Wii games and make the best use of the Wiis unique's controls.

I can't think of a single 'shovelware' game EA has brought to Wii. Not all are great (Boogie) but they are at least serious efforts.

Godfather Blackhand was a great EA Wii game. Granted it was a port, but the controls were superb.

I think I will pick up boom blox this weekend.

Actually as much as I'd love to say F EA this F EA that, they don't get enough credit ie.

SSX: Blur flopped hard althought it was vastly superior in controls over it's counter parts on the PS2, why is because they maxed the controls and bugeted everything else.

If the game had 1-8 players online and 1 - 4 players offline, it would of sold at least a million by now, regardless of the characters well... missing character.

I'm Unamerica and you can too.

I'd argue with you that Sega is the Best Wii 3rd party developer...

Sonic Secret Rings, Monkey Ball Deluxe, Nights, House of the Dead 2 & 3, Mario and Sonic Olympics, Sega Tennis, Ghost Squad, Samba de Amigo(upcoming game) all are pretty good.

But they also had more stinkers like Bleach, Alien Syndrome and Sonic Riders.

Hopefully Boom Blox doesn't flop too hard so EA keeps putting out the same game you bought last year.
