The 360 launched 30 months ago and it's only dropped 50$ on the states. We all know MS is now all for profitability but geez...

damn that profit eater RRoD

Yea I wonder how it will look between Sonys and Microsofts balance sheet.

Wii is as expected but it is exactly why people should stop making huge threads about how the Wii will reach 50% marketshare within a few month when they see a big Wii week and then a weaker week comes and the Wii loose half the progress it made the previous week...

While I agree Wii won't hit 50% in a few months you're technically wrong when you said it lost half the progress it made last week.  It didn't lose any progress actually.

Wii sales = 298 + 45 (From Source's Japan preview article)

PS360 = 381 + 11 (again from source's preview)

Wii gets 343k this week while the HD consoles sell 392.  Wii did not outsell them but Wii sold around 46.67% of consoles this week.  Since that number is higher than the previous LTD marketshare of 45% Wii did gain more marketshare.  Not enough to be noticable at all but if it continues to get tiny bumps like this on off weeks and much bigger (>50%) leads on some weeks than it will pass 50% soon enough.  The problem is as it approaches 50% it'll need more of the bigger boosts but with the upcoming supply increase that should be possible.

Also others might be more hungry for MGS4 than NA.

I'd agree with that.  Both MGS2 and MGS3 sold better in others according to VGC data.  And we actually have launch data for MGS3 which shows that the Others launch owned the NA launch (411k to 183k).

MGS4 will easily be the highest in EU+Others. What is most interesting is how much it can actually sway NA and Japan.

At least this off week for the wii it still sold much higher than the PS3. It use to be 200K then 60K, now it is 400K, then 130K. In fact, after Japan is posted Wii should have 45.1% by my calculations. Wii Fit launch week in NA and Brawl Launch week in Europe should see large gains.

I do believe that alot of people are holding off on getting a PS3 until the MGS4 bundle. If I didn't already have a PS3 I would wait. Not just for MGS4, but also because you get the DS3 also.

As for the Wii, I'm shocked it is so high this week. I figured we'd be looking at another 60k week like after the last 300k+ week a month ago. I wonder if it will be up around 400k on Wii Fit week.

Good week to Nintendo, DS still powerful, Wii have less drop than I expected, and PS360 have more drop than I expected.

I'm not saying that Grand Theft Auto 4 (or other big games) doesn't move hardware ...

What I am saying is that there is an assumption that is made by many fanboys that after a big game is released suddenly the sales of the system's hardware will suddenly explode. Most people who buy a system for games end up buying it because of the games it already has available and the upcomming games that they will also want; this means that any boost due to Grand Theft Auto 4 has already been included in the sales for these platforms for months so you shouldn't expect this massive boost in sales following the release of a game ...

That pretty much sums it up. I'm also in the camp of those who believe that individual games don't move nearly as much hardware as people think. The Grand Theft Auto boost to hardware was VERY significant: PS3 sales were up almost 100% for the week! But that's all it was, a one-time jump in sales with little lasting effect. Anyone who thought this game was going to "change the console wars" was deluding themselves.

Of course, this isn't going to stop Internet fans from whipping themselves into a frenzy over Metal Gear Solid next month, then seeming puzzled when nothing changes in the larger scope of things.

This is due to the fact that GTA 4 is multiplatform where as MGS4 is exclusive to one platform and will sustain stronger HW sales especially with the bundle out in all regions.

That just means the bump should have been spread across both consoles. These numbers totaled together are below the week prior to release.  A single game doesnt sell consoles.  All those people that all ready have a PS3 arent going to purchase a new one because a $60 game is bundled with the $500 version of the console.

Its libraries that sell systems not a single game.

Realistically, how many people do you think are willing to spend $400 for 1 game (when you include the console, game, and tax)? If you wanted other games that have already been released for the PS3 or XBox 360 as well as Grand Theft Auto 4 you probably already bought the system.

As I've said before, there are no "System Sellers" in the way that most fanboys think there are system sellers ...

I dunno.

If you look at worldwide numbers GTA4 probably moved like 200-250k PS3 so far...( hard to say because Others numbers were inflated with GT5P before GTA release, depending on the real GT5P impact in Others it could actually be as much as 300-350k consoles).

There are a few exceptions to this, but they can be counted on one hand because they're games that generate a new market from people who were previously uninterested in videogames.

Nicely said.  And if GTA IV doesn't shift consoles in the U.S., those of you thinking MGS4 is going to cause a huge upswing are in serious denial.  I've been saying for weeks now that the vast majority of the MGS4 buyers already have their consoles.  It ain't happening.  The game looks awesome and is a great franchise but in the grand scheme of things, it's as niche of a title as a hit AAA title can be.  People may by it because of the pretty pretty prettiness of it, but it's way too cinematic versus action and loony bin storyline for the masses.  I'm sticking by that prediction.

Can't we all just get along and play our games in peace?

Thank you for proving my point.
