Forums - Sales Discussion - NA Sales UP---Ps360--OUCH!!

Nintendo didn't ship this week, it's always like that. They ship ever second week.

Well, why are there then sales second week, you ask. Well, that's because the retailer wants to have some Wiis in every time and doesn't let everything out at once... At least I think that's it.

That is VGChartz LONGEST review. And it's NOT Cute Kitten DS

it may of did nothing to hardware but lets see the software Numbers.

Incert Witty Comment on how i'm a fanboy of all systems including PC here.

=/ Oh then I am the only one living in a country who had exams/tests then...

Thought it would be the same in the rest of the world.

Hardware looks average to me this week, I'm just wondering how much wii fit will boost wii sales

Realistically, how many people do you think are willing to spend $400 for 1 game (when you include the console, game, and tax)? If you wanted other games that have already been released for the PS3 or XBox 360 as well as Grand Theft Auto 4 you probably already bought the system.

As I've said before, there are no "System Sellers" in the way that most fanboys think there are system sellers ...

I dunno.

If you look at worldwide numbers GTA4 probably moved like 200-250k PS3 so far...( hard to say because Others numbers were inflated with GT5P before GTA release, depending on the real GT5P impact in Others it could actually be as much as 300-350k consoles).

PS3-Xbox360 gap : 1.5 millions and going up in PS3 favor !

PS3-Wii gap : 20 millions and going down !

The PS3 already benefited from GTA with strong sales in NA before and the week of release so this dropoff is not suprising since GTA 4 did dropoff by alot also.

Of course, but any one potential kille-ap could be a straw that breaks the camel's back sort of game. Despite wanting to play Twilight Princess for months, it and Wii Sports wasn't neough to make me shell out the dough for a console. Then Metroid Prime 3 came out, and I decided that was enough for me at that time (I also picked up RE:4 Wii edition).

GTAIV should theoretically be that sort of game--the type where you go "ok, this is too much for me to hold out," at least it sohuld of been for the PS3 with it's relative dearth of great games. I agree though that if you haven't already gotten a 360 with the number of great games for it out already and with a relatively similar user base for those games and GTA, GTAIV wasn't going to make you buy a system.

My consoles and the fates they suffered:

Atari 7800 (Sold), Intellivision (Thrown out), Gameboy (Lost), Super Nintendo (Stolen), Super Nintendo (2nd copy) (Thrown out by mother), Nintendo 64 (Still own), Super Nintendo (3rd copy) (Still own), Wii (Sold)

A more detailed history appears on my profile.

Ouch for ps360

Almost looks like wii production is finally going upwards lately, after last week wii sales are quite reasonable!

Currently Playing:

Wii: Mario Kart Wii, Wii Sports Resort

Xbox360: Fifa 2009, Halflife 2 Episode 2
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Want to play:
Wii: Lego Indiana Jones, SMG2
Xbox360: MW2

No single game at this point in time will push PS360 hardware to a higher than normal sales average.

PS3 increased year over year due to *all* of the games released and a price drop, not any single item.

GTA4 on its own, like Halo 3, and eventually MGS4 and FF13, will have no single long term affect. They all cause a bump in sales and that's it. Together these games plus another decent price drop could and probably will increase PS3's sales trend to a smaller degree than this year vs last year change.

This is the reason why PS3 and 360 will never catch/pass the Wii. At this point they can only have small changes in overall sales with peaks here and there.

This is no different for the Wii either. In regions where its sales have already normalized, i.e. Japan, there will never be any substantial long term sales change. Only gradual changes. This, of course, is does not pertain to NA as demand is still out pacing supply and until that is normalized anything is possible.

It will be interesting to see what an increased supply to NA and Wii Fit actually does for the remainder of this year.

I'm not saying that Grand Theft Auto 4 (or other big games) doesn't move hardware ...

What I am saying is that there is an assumption that is made by many fanboys that after a big game is released suddenly the sales of the system's hardware will suddenly explode. Most people who buy a system for games end up buying it because of the games it already has available and the upcomming games that they will also want; this means that any boost due to Grand Theft Auto 4 has already been included in the sales for these platforms for months so you shouldn't expect this massive boost in sales following the release of a game ...

There are a few exceptions to this, but they can be counted on one hand because they're games that generate a new market from people who were previously uninterested in videogames.
