Forums - Sony Discussion - is mgs4 getting more hyped than halo 3 was?

GTAIV is in the Guiness Book of Records since a day or something as being the biggest entertainment event in history, beating Halo 3 and Spiderman 3 (movie), so Halo 3 certainly isn't the biggest event anymore..

No way ... IMO we will not see the hype H3 got for a looooooong time . If GTA4 didnt get it , than nothing will ;)

well we will have to wait and see lol, the funny thing is tho i play games and never herd of Halo 3 at the time lol. i must have been under a rock lol

no where near, MS had Halo 3 adverts eveywhere, i even saw a bus with a picture of masterchief on it, MGS4 is well hyped, but no where near as much as Halo 3, im hoping MGS4 will live up to the hype unlike Halo 3 which IMO was only just better than Halo 2.

I don't think it is possible for a game to be as hyped as Halo 3. I saw adds for that game everywhere I went, 7-11, Hastings, and numerous other places. It made me hate the game before it even came out because I felt like I was being told to bought it like a consumer slave.

It would bother me just as much if MGS4 had the same kind of promo campaign, so I sincerely hope that MGS4 doesn't get as shamelessly hyped as Halo 3 did.

We had two bags of grass, seventy-five pellets of mescaline, five sheets of high-powered blotter acid, a salt shaker half full of cocaine, a whole galaxy of multi-colored uppers, downers, screamers, laughers…Also a quart of tequila, a quart of rum, a case of beer, a pint of raw ether and two dozen amyls.  The only thing that really worried me was the ether.  There is nothing in the world more helpless and irresponsible and depraved than a man in the depths of an ether binge. –Raoul Duke

It is hard to shed anything but crocodile tears over White House speechwriter Patrick Buchanan's tragic analysis of the Nixon debacle. "It's like Sisyphus," he said. "We rolled the rock all the way up the mountain...and it rolled right back down on us...."  Neither Sisyphus nor the commander of the Light Brigade nor Pat Buchanan had the time or any real inclination to question what they were doing...a martyr, to the bitter end, to a "flawed" cause and a narrow, atavistic concept of conservative politics that has done more damage to itself and the country in less than six years than its liberal enemies could have done in two or three decades. -Hunter S. It will never be possible to outhype Halo. Why? Because the gaming community UNIFORMLY says this game is "solid" at best, while the multiplayer is fun, yet it gets 10s, and sells bajillions. Don't forget to factor in Mountain Dew, Nascar, millions worth in commercials, etc. MGS4 won't sells million on hype, it will sell on the greatness of the game, much like how Kingdom Hearts was a sleeper hit that sold out of nowhere for such an unlikely mix up

Cause when I think sleeper hit I think Disney and Final Fantasy.

So am I imaginging that Kingdom Hearts TV commercial that was burned in my head because it seemed to play every commercial break?

Seriously, this thing played so much I know the damn song word for word.

I somehow don't think MGS4 will be absent on the airwaves either.

Either way it's not going to top that "Master Cheif Banks Here.  Go Earth!" thing.

Disney and Final Fantasy by themselves wouldn't make a game a sleeper hit, because you'd know about each separate game quite well. Kingdom Hearts was a fluke of a conception that took off out of nowhere, the developers even said that they didn't expect it to sell so well. And that ONE commercial that made airwaves like 2 weeks before release is why I call it a sleeper. Halo had commericals an entire MONTH before release, 24 hour countdown on G4TV, Gamer Fuel, is on Nascar...cars, etc. Nothing will ever beat that. The reason I compared MGS4 to KH is because both sold/will sell mostly on merit, and not hype (not to say Halo doesn't sell on merit, but damnit...it even has its' own book for crying out loud). Sure, the gaming community is hyping MGS4 like none other, but this community is but a very, VERY small fraction of the consumers that actually buy games.
