Hype: Halo 3 >>>>> MGS4
MGS4 is only hyped among the hardcore. The average gamer is still discovering Mario Kart is out. It's just not a mainstream franchise - which is exactly what its fans like about it. You see it constantly on sites like this or IGN or kotaku, but not in the rest of the world.
Nothing can be more hyped until we see it's opening seek. If during that week they make a softdrink based on the game and I can't watch 10 min. of G4tv without seeing a commercial for the game or hearing them talk about it's imminent release, then it will have a shot at being more hyped.

A flashy-first game is awesome when it comes out. A great-first game is awesome forever.

Is that only a Japan thing though, because FF has had soda type things over there for forever. I would have to see a real prominent advertising campaign like that in America to believe that it's of the same level as the Halo 3 thing.
