Forums - Nintendo Discussion - My Wii erased my Gamecube memory card!!!

So yesterday I was playing the Ocarina of time (the Gamecube one) on my Wii. I opened up my saved file and played it for a while. Everything was going great. Then I decided to switch games, so I turned the Wii off, turned it back on, switched to Resident Evil 4 (Gamecube edition) and started it up. When I went to load my game, it said that the memory card was corrupted and had to be re-formatted. There was nothing I could do about it. I wanted to make sure this was true, so I put Zelda back in and sure enough, it said that the data was corrupted.

All of this happened within a two minute period, and I didn't do anything wrong in the way of turning off and turning on the console. My only conclusion is that the Wii itself fucked my memory card up. This morning I decided to format it, and all of the data was lost. Now I have to start all of my Gamecube games over from scratch and I'm really angry about it. That's 7 years of my gaming life down the drain. Has this happened to anyone else? Does anyone know why it happened to me? Thanks for any advice/info.

Could be the memory card's fault, not the Wii's.  Still sucks though.

LEFT4DEAD411.COM
Bet with disolitude: Left4Dead will have a higher Metacritic rating than Project Origin, 3 months after the second game's release.  (hasn't been 3 months but it looks like I won :-p )

It has happened to me using non Nintendo memory cards. Do you use official ones?
Then, I am under the impression that these memory cards do have a deadline for use. I am not certain on this one. Perhaps someone else can help here.

^^ It was an official Nintendo memory card. One of the big ones with 1500 blocks or something like that.

Kinda off topic... I bought a brand new gamecube memory card when I got my wii... it was brand new sealed in plastic and all... It came with RE4 saves on it and few other games. Kinda cool that I could play Aida's bonus missions on RE4 right away :)

I remember this happening to a friend of mine who had a huge memory card. We were in the middle of playing melee and using the camera mode to take funny and cool pictures. We had one of the most hilariously wrong pictures ever taken, but it got lost cause for some reason his card just decided to spaz out and do nothing. That was back on the gamecube.

It happens. It sucks, but it happens.

Seppukuties is like LBP Lite, on crack. Play it already!

Currently wrapped up in: Half Life, Portal, and User Created Source Mods
Games I want: (Wii)Mario Kart, Okami, Bully, Conduit,  No More Heroes 2 (GC) Eternal Darkness, Killer7, (PS2) Ico, God of War1&2, Legacy of Kain: SR2&Defiance

My Prediction: Wii will be achieve 48% market share by the end of 2008, and will achieve 50% by the end of june of 09. Prediction Failed.

same happened to me but with my gamecube, i put in RE4 and it said memory was corrupted

That is unfortunate. However it was probably your memory card.

This is why the game companies should start offering a way for you to back up your game saves to a location on the internet.

On another note, here's what you could have tried (worked for me). Take the card and place it inside a cube, it would most likely have read the card at which point you could copy all needed data to another card. Then you could format it, copy all the data back and put it back in the Wii.

Prepare for termination! It is the only logical thing to do, for I am only loyal to Megatron.

That stinks, good think I have 3 memory cards with the same data on them.

Nintendo still doomed?
