GTA4, probably the most hyped game for this generation. A game that is thought to be 'perfect' by reviewers and a game that has an average of 99 out of 100 on www.gamerankings.com. A game that has beaten TLoZ:OoT for the top spot on the list of 'best games ever'.
And in this thread, I'm going to explain why i Do Not agree with the overall thought of all the reviewers that gave it 100% en-mass!
1) GTA4 is a great game! A good Free-roaming game in which you can do uncountable things. However, some of these things don't work as good as some might think you to believe they do. The driving works fine, but not perfect, the shooting may be better then compared to previous itterations in the series, but still... Lacking! The Graphics! The game looks WAY better then it's predecessors... That's a plain fact, but still there are A Lot of games out on X360 as well as the PS3 that look better in every way! Some might argue that it's the combination of all these things that make the game worthy of 100% out of 100... But i Do Not agree with that! Sure, the game is great! I can't argue about that! I'm having fun with it! Sure, people can say; ofcourse the game doesn't drive as good as GT5, or shoot as good as the average FPS game... But hey, reviewers gave the game a 10 en-mass... These things should be enough to make it at least a little lower.
2) Story is repetitive. The story-telling and the plot-twists are where GTA4 shines the most! That's just a piece of art! I always love the dialogues and the subtle wordcombinations used in them but the missions themselves. It's always, 'kill the mobsters in warehouse A' or 'Follow gangster XXX to spot B and take him out'... Or let him life... Which often doesn't even affect the game. My point is... I'd give the game above a 9! That's a given! And i honestly understand that the game sells this much, it deserves it!... But why on earth does this game has an average of 99%... How can this game score 10 after 10?!... I really think 'Hype' plays a big role in it... I bought GTA4 in the thought of buying one of the best games ever... It's even ranked 1st... But I started playing the game less when i found playing Mario Kart Wii more fun... Not trying to bash GTA4 here, great game... Still playing through the storyline, but seriously! I like Mario Kart Wii more... And I know I'm not the only one!
This is just the same thing as what happened with Halo 3... Although obviously GTA4 is a lot better then Halo 3...! Halo 3 got a 10 from EDGE! One of the most critically acclaimed review-magazines in the World! Halo is just a mediocre shooter-series in my opinion. Reviewers gave it a high score due to 1; Hype. And 2; Mass-marketing budget. Same thing happened here with GTA4... Although that game would desereve a 9.6 in my opinion or something around that and I'd give Halo 3 a 8.9.
Point is, GTA4 is NOT the best game around... The game has some (serious?!) issues here and there and there is no way you can deny that!...
Here's another one for you; The biggest Dutch gaming Magazine (Power Unlimited) is going to give GTA4 a 10... They already said that in one of their blog-posts... And the argument for that was; They had already given Assassin's Creed a 9.9... And they think GTA4 is better... How lame is that!

The average score for GTA4 on the PS3 is 99.0% out of 100%. Thus making it the best game Ever according to various reviewers, gamerankings.com and metacritic.com. A shame really...
