Forums - Sales Discussion - MS:we have "5 million" lead over PS3 globally

Has anyone thought that maybe the pesron who made this interview didnt get all his facts right or wrote down the responces exactly the way they happend. A diff word here or wrong word there can really throw things off you know. Just like when I posted a story saying how in sony eu press thingy that just passed they reported that they had sold just undear 12m ps3 lol as someone pointed out to me he ment psp. Things like this Im talking about. We know the 360 numbers are pritty darn close when a couple of months back the head of 360 in eu said in a interview that the 360 had a install base(not sold not shipped) of 17.7m which was only 300k more than what was on here. If the 360 numbers were so close I dont think the ps3 will be that much off.

Like that MS guy : "Great news! Resident Evil 5 now at the X360 too!"

"Wait, What? It was announced 1 year ago"

Predictions: 2008/2009

Wii 42-45 M / 71-75M

X360 24-26M / 38-40M
PS3 20-21 M / 30-34M

Some other things to consider. Sony's statement about 5 million in Europe was shipped. MS statement about a 1 million lead was sold.

Now the kicker is this. What Sony considers to be "Europe" and what MS considers "Europe" aren't exactly the same. Not to forget but MS was citing GfK and Chart Track which will again have a 3rd set of boundaries.

I know it sounds odd but for corporate purposes none of the companies has to have the same countries in their definition for sales. While the difference may not be so huge as a whole 1 million unit lead, it does show plausibility for either PR piece to have some validity "from their perspective only".

Wow, what an absolute mess of a thread. It is stuff like this that makes me wish I was on the site more myself to moderate.

Antic - bye bye go back to GAF you nastly little troll
Diomedes - please stop with the broken record
SpartanFX - you need to seriously calm down

The next thread like this that gets created will be locked and the op banned. I am sick of them. We go through the same loop every time.

Let me make a simple point to you - THESE ARE PR PEOPLE. They are not analysts, not numbers experts, just PR people and they often make mistakes.

Let us disect what he says (as we already have):

"Today Xbox 360 has a 5-million-unit console sales lead on a global basis based on most recently public reported data from both companies"

Makes no sense. Sony haven't released figures recently. Both companies means Sony and Microsoft. So he is ether referring to last quarter (as that was the most recent release) or he is making it up or he is trying to project forward or he is guessing that Sony's shipment numbers will be less than 14m, but doesn't know how much less as yet. It is typical vague pr. He has just said what he can commit to - that the lead is at least 5 million.

"This includes more than double the installed base in the US according to actual NPD sell-through and over a 1-million-unit lead across Europe also based on reported sell-through from Chart Track and GfK"

This includes makes no sense as he has gone from talking about "reported data from both companies" to "actual sell-through". Again more PR confusion and trying to make things sound official.

A one million lead in Europe. Didn't Sony release a statement about a week ago saying PS3 had passed 360 in Europe? I wish people would make up their minds. GFK / Chart Track data can't be showing both. Our data has 360 about 300k ahead in Europe, 1m in others (Australia, Asian markets have been successful for 360). This, as far as I'm concerned, is spot on and agrees well with the euro figures i've seen from other sources. The various conflicting pr figures are to be taken with a pinch of salt. Maybe the 1m lead for 360 is just using select countries (UK+France+Germany say) whereas the PS3>360 in Europe is taken from shipments. Who really knows, but you'll make yourself dizzy trying to make sense of it all when they don't release actual figures or sources.

thanks ioi for responding,,,I said in thread that we should wait for sony's shipment figure aswell.I didn't ask for readjustment or any thing like that,,lol, sorry if the thread got this big.and again thanks for the effort here,,,and I m the guy the fights in n4g.com with whoever that discredits the site,,so I did n't make the thread to discredit anything here. You were both out of line.  Don't get personal.  Attack their ideas and arguments if you want Spartan, but lay off the person, even if your provoked.

starcraft - Playing Games = FUN, Talking about Games = SERIOUS

Well, this single PR guy made quite an impression to the extent The Boss got in the thread guns blazing with full-chart artillery to defend his turf....I remain skeptical, and I will wait for further information that can clarify this from a neutral ground.

Sure.  Ioi basicially says what i'm saying and suddenly it's the voice of reason.... jeesh.

"If Blu-ray as they said would be such a catalyst to PS3 console sales, then why have PS3 sales over the past couple months not seen any lift since the format victory?"

I didn't get that remark, that's exactly what we've seen...xbox 360 is regularly outsold by PS3 in 2008. But in 2007, xbox 360 outsold the PS3.

The difference can only be explained by blu-ray. The PS3 didn't suddenly get any advantage in terms of software library.

no,,you just focused on one word but ioi analyzed the whole thing.even with graphs,,

the only thing left(unkown part) is tthe sony's shipment figure.if Sony has shipped 14 million by the end of the march ,,,then PS3 might have been undertracked here casue we have it here at around 11.4 million for that period.

so he is right nothing is obvious just now and everything else that IS obvious agrees with the data here.
