Forums - Sales Discussion - MS:we have "5 million" lead over PS3 globally

Kasz216 said:

Also you do realzie this would also mean that 360 is undertracked in Europe. Since the 360 is at a 1 million lead in all of others.

So for your 5 million to be true it'd have to be..

Europe: 1 Million

US: 2X<3X

Japan: 1.49 Million PS3 Advantage.

Others: ???

Lets eliminate others since we don't know what that is and it at most accounts for like 50,000 consoles.

So (in Millions) 1+X- 1.49 = 5

so X - .49 = 5

MR English you may need some first grade math class

X=5+0.49

X=5.49 PS3 sold in america not 4.51
Therefore US sales of 360 over PS3 would have to equal = 4.51 Million advantage.

So. 4.51 would be the advantage in America.

Now then.  Looking back to it... this advantage + what microsoft has has to be over 2 times of what sony has.  and under 3 times.

So 4.51 would mean that PS3 couldn't have sold over 4.51 consoles in america.

see the bolded part

besides they ahve done all this calculation before they come up with 5 million lead

I think it would be best to just wait for Sony's numbers.

I also agree with SpartanFX. If Sony has not released their numbers yet, then how on Earth does someone think they know them? Also if they are going by "Shipped to retail" sales shouldn't PS3 overall sales be higher?

If I am understanding this wrong please correct me.

iPhone = Great gaming device. Don't agree? Who cares, because you're wrong.

Currently playing:

Final Fantasy VI (iOS), Final Fantasy: Record Keeper (iOS) & Dragon Quest V (iOS)

Got a retro room? Post it here!

Eh, that was a typo. Though they teach addition in first grade math. Not Algebra. So it'd be under 5.49. Which still doesn't make much sense with the switch your trying to represent.

You still haven't answered with any logic who "both companies" refers to.

Afterall you are claiming they are inflating the world wide lead.  Which would lower the number on the right.  Which would lower the number of possible PS3's in the US.

I can't answer that untill we see Sonys shipment in 8 days from now.however,,you didn't answer my question yet,,

If they have access to sold to customers and it's 6.4 milion why didn't the companie's PR say that they are around 7 million  in lead globally,,,rather than saying 5 million lead,,,does that make any sense ?

Oooo this thead is yet to see the real fireworks , just wait 7 or so hours...

Aslo considering the sites numbers

11.72 - 5.49 lead = 6.23 PS3s impossible because 5.49 > 6.23.

So that would lead to overtracked 360s... not vice versa.

So this would mean the number of 360's in the US would have to be less then double 5.49.

So less then 10.98. So 360 would have to be overtracked by about a million... at the least.

There is no way... unless I have another typo in which it can be a case of PS3 undertracking.

Therefore PS3 sellthrough numbers will basically tell us nothing.

Because they don't have solid sellthrough data for the entire world.

Therefore you have to go by shipments.
