Forums - Gaming Discussion - 10 ways to prevent 360 RROD

lol rock on. but i see your sinister plan.

"look at all the things you must do to keep your 360 in playing order, buy a different console"

RROD is a problem of the past now, the newer models are fine.
if it does rrod, then you get a brand new 360, so there is no problem.

My 360 elite is fine after playing gtaiv for 35 hours in 4 days...

1. Buy a PS3 or Nintendo Wii instead.

2. Feel your 360 to see if it is not hot if hot just wait.

All consoles get hot after a while, even the mighty PS3.

3 Unplug 360 every time your done usin it.

I don't think that does anything

4. Do not buy GTA IV.

Don't buy GTA on the PS3 either it freezes :)

5. Do not play during a storm.

Haven't heard that one before

6. Do not buy an anti-cooler works for some people but can give you the red rings of death and void your warranty.

7. Do not play your 360 again when you just played it for a long time.

Actually, me and a mate (looking back on it, it was pointless that we did do it and kind of lame) played all of Halo 3 in one sitting (12 hours). 360 lasted for another 4 months after that.

8. Try to reduce your gamin hours but im not sayin you should but this method is effective.

When it was first released, I played COD4 online regularly (around an hour every day) and that was fine. I didn't play the 360 for 2 weeks (work was killing me at the time) and when I finally had a night to relax and play, RROD happened. After 2 whole weeks without turning it on or anything like that it RROD, pretty ironic considering most claim that it's overuse that kills the console.

9. Try to clear the dust in your 360 your 360 needs to breath so the dust might cover up the wholes.

Only time I cleaned the 360 was when I shipped it off to repair, owned it for 2 years before that.

10. Do not put your 360 in real hot areas its best to get a warm or cold place.

True, also, don't buy it if you live in a country that gets extremely warm.

Lameeeee list, while 1 gives a chuckle, 2, 3, 7, 8 are pointless and don't actually do anything.

10 is probably the best one (in terms of being serious).

When I say I hadn't played my 360 for 2 weeks and then it RROD, what I forgot to mention, during that time, the hottest day of the summer happened (I think it hit 43 degrees C) and that's probably what did it.

Looks like Rock_on_2008 seems to like to stick on the earlier 360 reliability problems but not the new machines that run fine, maybe he should start a thread called " 10 ways to prevent the PS2 DVD of Death" if he wants to dwell on early release problems -

In the contents box on the left click on 7.1 DISC READ ERRORS.

Disc read error

Owners of early PS2 models purchased from launch until July 2003 often reported faulty optical drives in their consoles.[20] The earliest drives suffered from a constantly misaligning laser lens, which could also result in discs being scratched by the lens. [21] Later defects were the result of a shift in voltage to the laser. The first problem was easily remedied by opening the console's casing and tweaking a cog that controlled the lens's distance from the disc; however, this action voided the console's warranty. The second problem could be fixed by using an oscillator. After many consoles had broken down, a class action lawsuit was filed against Sony. Sony agreed to provide free repair or replacement for the faulty consoles and continued to do so until February 2005.[citation needed]

Another problem that could cause a disc read error is wear on the coupling in the head assembly to the worm gear that moves the laser. A symptom of this is a loud repetitive clicking sound. This sound can also be heard on older systems when playing blue or black disks. These problems rarely occur on newer consoles.[citation needed]

A class action lawsuit was launched in 2005 against Sony with regards to this issue. It was settled [22] by allowing those who purchased a defective console to receive $25, a free game, free repairs, or a new console.

You know what i find hilarious about this site.

Ps3 users can make biased flame bate posts and not get hampered for it.
360 Users get stomped and told to gtfo when they decide to add a little flame to the fire.

The world cant take a biased site seriously can they?

I know im knew as a poster here but i have been reading this site for months.I have to laugh tho becuase like star and geb make my day when they make ps3 fanboys look stupid over and over again.

I was going to buy a ps3 until i read all the quality posts by geb and starcraft and realised that the people that know what there talking about prefer 360.

Guys like mike b are a joke lmao

I'm pretty sure a thread like that existed already.... and what does the PS2 have to do with this topic?

Either way, when my PS2's lens started messing up, I just put it upside down or an upsidedown slanted position (like my PS1). I wish I could do the same with my 360.

Come on guys. I'm leaving soon and this is the stuff I have to deal with? Flame threads and troll responses?

Not cool. Not cool at all. I'm locking this down tighter than a... crap, I can't even think of a good line with all this flaming trollery.

I'm a mod, come to me if there's mod'n to do.

Chrizum is the best thing to happen to the internet, Period.

Serves me right for challenging his sales predictions!

Bet with dsisister44: Red Steel 2 will sell 1 million within it's first 365 days of sales.

How about this: buy a 360 with it in mind that it will likely RROD. That's what I did. I looked over the warranty information and decided that if I absolutely needed to, I'd pay for a repair out of pocket, if Microsoft required it. This would be in the case that my system failed after the one year warranty expired and without getting an RROD, or after the three year RROD warranty expired.

The 360 isn't our primary console anyway, the Wii is. So if the 360 is gone for a while, we won't be all that upset.

UltimateFighter

Yes I agree with you 100%, tried it myself just now by putting up 1 silly post about the pS3 and guess what removed already. and as you say if a 360 owners put a post up like this the PS3 fanboyz replies would all be "I see a ban coming etc" this site is pointless if you want to have a good allround read aboutwhat is going on in the games world now it's just become a PS3 fanboy site, I know of at least One mod here who bans people for next to nothing if they dare say anything about the PS3....................................

This thread is going nowhere fast. Sorry, folks.
