Forums - Sony Discussion - Quaz51: Haze only 576p

I think the graphics look great. The lower resolution doesn't bother me because the framerate is solid. I just played the demo and Haze is the second FPS I have ever enjoyed playing, after Metriod Prime 3.

@sheeuk -> How is the voice acting in the demo? It was noticeably awful in some of the gameplay footage.

Thanks for the input, Jeff.

Maybe they lowered the resolution of the demo to decrease the size of the download. Until the final build is complete, I wouldn't be so hasty on the Haze resolution issue.

Lowering the resolution shouldn't change the size of the download. You would have to reduce the texture quality to reduce the demo size.

576p?

we are all the ps3 game at 1080p
gtaiv 620p haze 576p mgs4 only 30fps in combat scenes. what is next ffxii to 320p
For this haze is only in ps3 if the game go to x360 ubi need redoing all textures to 720p

If wii is not of this generation haze either.

Where are all the "Haze will be 'meh/generic/bland/etc.' at best" posts now that the demo is out? Oh that's right, the game's going to be decent and the only reason people bashed it is because it was PS3 only (deep down inside, those of you who did it KNOW that's the rerason you did it)

That being said, it is getting kind of sad that many of these 2nd generation games are running below HD. Sony touted the PS3 as THE HD console, yet all the new games are running below standard. Sure, only those with a magnifying glass can tell the difference, but the fact remains that these games are NOT HD, so until they can get a fix on that, then they (Sony) better not keep exclamating that the PS3 is THE HD console (of course they're supposed to do it, though, because of marketing, and at the same time, all the 1st/2nd party titles have ran at 720p or higher native, so maybe it's just 3rd parties....wait a minute, Halo was 640p and Bungie had M$s help lol)

Then why do HD downloads take up more space than SD?

Cause I thought resolution dealt directly with space.

You can render a 1x1 texture in 1080p, but that doesn't take up all that much space. The information needed to render at high resolutions is rather small.

The textures themselves are just images. You know how you take a picture with a camera and it takes ~4MB, Well, I can render that picture at whatever resolution I want (it may not turn out so great) but it still takes ~4MB. The best way to reduce my download size wouldn't be to change the resolution I render that 4MB pic at, but to reduce the size of the picture to 2MB. The quality might drop, but the resolution it is rendered at will stay the same.

EDIT: there is a difference between resolution rendered at, and the resolution of the textures themselves. I am under the impression that the reference above is to the rendering resolution.

Personally I'm not really fussed about resolutions, the only difference I see between 1080p and 720p CoD4 is that the writing is slightly bigger on MP names on the 720p.

I really couldn't care less about definitions, so long as it's kept to a resolution that it doesn't look blocky (i.e like VC, PS1 and XBLA games do). I'd rather have a solid framerate with good graphics then an image that fits perfectly to scale on my screen with terrible graphics/framerate.

It's quite funny how much fuss PS3 fanboys made about the PS3's capabilities of producing native 1080p games, when those ones turned out to be the most average looking games on the system.

DMJ is right, resolution changes size of files, that's why HD videos on GT are double or more than the SD versions. I would say the same principle applies to video game resolutions.

@CAL4M1TY

You are talking about video (film/texture) resolution, which is not quite the same as rendering resolution.
