Forums - PC Discussion - EA's anti piracy screwing up PC Mass Effect.

http://kotaku.com/387846/mass-effect-copy-protection-an-opportunity-to-use-the-adjective-draconian

"EA and BioWare are employing SecuROM for the PC release of Mass Effect, a copy protection scheme you may recall from its universally loathed inclusion in 2K's BioShock. The Mass Effect SecuROM annoyance factor may be much more extreme, as the game requires that the owner authenticate the copy every ten days, meaning that an internet connection is required to play the game from the get-go and until eternity. In other words, if you paid for your copy of Mass Effect, expect to remind EA's authentication servers every week and a half that you aren't stealing it."

For me, I have limited internet connection. I'm f***ing not doing this. I was already excited to buy this game, too. Just lost a sale, EA.

EA's anti-piracy laws on PC are stupid. Mass Effect sales on PC will be adversely affected. Anti-piracy on Bioshock was crap. You were only allowed to install Bioshok game disk 5 times and you had to log on line to register the BioShock copy.

This is a good move because i bet alot of people were ready to download it when it hit.

Talk about screwing gamers, if it is authentic once its authentic in ten days as well.

Not if its a copy genius

The pirates always come up with a solution. It just takes time. This is a semi successful tactic. I was going to pirate Splinter Cell: Chaos Theory which use a previous version of SecureRom. But it took them like a month to fully crack so I just bought the damn game. And it was one of the most enjoyable gaming experiences I've had to date. I wonder if buying the game had anything to do with it...

I was impatient, but those determined to pirate will, EA can't stop them.

In which case it won't matter simply because

A:It might not work in the first place or;

B:It does work and will continue working, in which case the system has failed at any rate.

And lastly; if it is indeed authentic (like I wrote) once then it really cannot become a copy ten days after... genius.

Thankfully I own the game for the 360. However if I were of the mind to purchase it for the PC. I would wait a couple days for the pirated version. People who buy things have a right to use those things legally without being tormented. When I buy a book no guy walks up ten days later asking for a receipt. Why should I do that for gaming? The answer is I should not, and more to the point I would not. Nor would I tolerate being required to have a internet connection. I have one, but I shouldn't be forced to have one to pay games I legally purchased.

That said I am not an advocate of piracy, but in this instance I say I hope the pirates get their copies out soon. So players can get a better quality gaming experience. I also hope that hacks are available for the game in short order so that those that bought the game legally can install them, and eliminate this idiotic nonsense.

Well, I was planning on getting the game but I am not going to put up with that bull. If they are able to get a torrent up within a reasonable amount of time I will get it but I have just lost interest in the game.
