I think mods shouldn't be allowed to post their comments (opinions) on ANY tread , unless it's a thread of their own. I know it's kind of a harsh measure, but it keeps the mods from siding with a particular fanbase.

If you want to start paying us to stop having fun on the site, some of us will be more than happy to oblige you.

Remember, we're videogame enthusiasts, just like all of you. We're also unpaid and while most of us try to remain neutral when actually deciding the fate of a user, you can't expect us to stop voicing our opinions in videogame related topics and start treating this as a job.

The key difference is whether the moderator enforces bans and warnings based on his preferences, not whether he has an opinion he loudly shouts from the rooftops.

If a mod wants to have fun in the site that's alright. Start your own threads, comment on gaming news and editorials, post on other mods' threads, comment on the "chartz section", review games, whatever. But stay away from the "hot topics" is that so much to ask? Mods posting in many of those threads is frequently uncalled for and they often take the side of a particular fanbase. That's an undeniable fact. That's not what you expect from a mod.

I can definitely understand your concern and while I hope all moderators don't let themselves be blinded by their own preferences, we still bring a lot to this site. The moderating crew here, love it or leave it, are filled with some of the most intelligent, articulate, and balanced people on this site. Yes, we all make mistakes and get a little too riled up over nonsense - myself especially - but most of us push that aside when it comes to the actual "moderating" part of our duties.

Really, most peoples' problems with moderators come from their own biases. That's not every case, but most of the time, complaints pop up from the people who constantly push the rules of the site. Several of the people in this thread - and some of the most vocal ones - have been warned by multiple moderators on multiple occasions for isolated incidents. That's a sign of a problem with the user, not the moderating staff.

yo will everyone just shut the hell up

Here's a video from my band's last show Check out more (bigger) videos here http://www.youtube.com/user/icemanout

I personally have never had a problem with mods. However there has never been anything that I have had to deal with. But I agree on the premis that mods can not have absolute descretion and can not ban ppl because they dont like them. I don't know but isn't there some sort of warning system also here?

You guys should of just made me a mod, i'm totally not bias. I have never posted anything offensive against any system or game, i have only ever posted honest opinions of games or systems i have played. I hate just about every game and system ever made.

I already have that area covered. Two moderators who hate everything just might make the site implode on itself. Naz and myself are already dangerously close to making that happen.

Out of interest, does everything include each other?

Also I have never had a problem with the moderation on this site, I feel its pretty fair and certainly better than in most places - [banned site] for example.

No, Naz and I get along great, just don't bring up RPGs around us. We've been known to go around and around and around over that subject...

You know, I had a joke thread that got locked down. I based it off the infamous Leo-J "greatest preditcion thread ever", the End of The Wii. I called it the End of the PS3 and copied his thread almost exactly (bad spelling of prediction included), just switched out Wii for PS3 and vice versa. I also switched game titles as well.

What I didn't understand was, Why would you lock down a thread that was obviously a sarcastic play on a fanboy rant, but leave the original open (it's still open now)?

http://www.vgchartz.com/forum/thread.php?start=0&id=24862 Leo J original

http://www.vgchartz.com/forum/thread.php?start=50&id=24871 Joke Thread

Of course, after permaban you have to read leo-j's original post in a quoted reply since all his posts have been removed.

Both were started on 4/24, the original is still open, the joke 'answer' thread got locked down in less than 12 hours, with no note from a mod, no pm, and no explanation.

I'd love to understand why stuff like this happens.....

I think the Wii Bingo thread would be locked by today's mod standards.

Indeed, i think the only problem with moderation on this site is that they usually allow Sony fanboys to troll while they don't give the same kind of freedom to Wii/360 owners... i think the mods should come hard at everyone who gets into personal attacks, like most ps3 fans on this site do.

I´ve noticed this also and it´s annoying as hell especialy when Sony fanboys scream that Ninty fanboys are getting away with the same thing when it´s actually themselves that get away with it far more then Ninty fanboys. I also noticed that when Nintendo fan´s get longer bans while Sony fans MOSTLY get a day or two.

 umm... Leo just got perma-banned...

I am so lost. What exactly warranted the permaban?

I see some claiming this place is one of the worst they have seen in terms of moderation, I highly disagree although I admit I do agree to an extent. Maxconsole is by far the worst on the net, not only do the mods do nothing, but "specific" mods start flamewars themselves, not to mention the vulgar language these guys use not only in reference to the topic at hand but to the users themselves. It feels nice to have a mod call you an asshole, essentially breaking their own rules and guidelines.

I also admit I myself have seen console biased by mods here although it is not my place to name anyone, I trust the crew here to know who exactly it is and fix it accordingly.

Not that it is anything huge but I used to Mod the QJ forums up until a few months ago and rarely would you see a mod jumping into a thread and flaming any specific console, taking sides, etc... there was a strict rule set and nobody was singled out. If one individual was banned and returned they did not keep a watchful eye on them only in anticipation of a future mistake which I honestly sometimes witness here. When the ban was served we would have them return and treat them no different than anyone else, regardless of what they did before. Which is how it should be done.

Nothing against any of the mods here personally, however  I understand what this post is in reference to. I am only stating my opinion on the topic at hand. No hard feelings. ;)

Yeah, that's entirely too much to ask.  As rocketPig pointed out we're volunteers and still members of the site.  Us posting or not posting in a topic won't stop trolls and if anything, when we post in a thread it generally has the cop effect where people think they're being watched and start acting good.

And the mods are all people and we do have our own opinions and personalities but we don't let that get in the way of our responsibilities.  I promise you that if I let my bias or hate for certain members affect how I moderate there would be many more locked threads and many more banned members.  Luckily when I'm actually moderating or any of the other mods and not just posting I do my best to take a step back and just look at the situation.

@soriku yeah i know he has been over thirty times and i agree you can stand up for yourself. My point was that when i was young and hot headed i too would have been banned quite a few times. I still think a perma ban for a young guy is harsh.
