People keep saying that Wii sales doesn't matter (specially Sony fanoys), and that the Wii is not competing against the 360 and PS3.

If you look the comments in every videogame blog, site and even VChartz, from November 2006 to mid 2007, everyone was ok with the Wii being in the same league.

But suddenly, when fanboys realized that their most advanced consoles could not outsell the Wii, they suddenly stop considering the Wii as competition.

 Ah, but surprise, every time the PS3 or 360 manage to outsell the Wii on a single week by a small margin, they make a party for that. That's hypocrisy.

So, Wii, 360 and PS3: current gen, all in the same league.

Personally I think while they aren't all appealing to the same demographics the same amount they are obviously in the same market. Someone that buys a wii is less likely to also buy a 360/ps3. Fanboys on all sides like to argue to make their system sell the best. And whatever console is last has the most rabid fanboys as they need to try hardest.

E.g with the gc it outsold the PS2 and xbox one november and nintendo fanboys went crazy saying this was going to be a trend bla bla bla. PS3 fanboys constantly bring up the arguement of attachment rate (this is possibly the most retarded) to try and make it seems games did better on it than 360. Can't think of a 360 one at the moment, maybe any week it outperforms the PS3 they act like it's going to continue forever.

P.S. The reason I say the attachment rate arguement is so stupid is because of course a fking new system with a small install base has a high attach rate! Especially an extremely expensive system. Who buys it first? Hardcore gamers. Who buys the most games? Hardcore gamers. Trying to argue that X game did this much on the PS3 with only X install base. So clearly if the install base was twice as big the game would perform twice as well is just painfully ignorant of any sort of logic.

It reminds me of before Wii started dominating, when Microsoft and Sony were both saying how nice one would look next to a 360 or PS3. In fact, MS is the one that coined the phrases 'Wii60'.

True words spoken. Wii is only apart of the current gen when it's convenient for PS360 fans.

Its actually funny.. because nintendo were the ones who originally said they were in their own league.. and at that point people were laughing at them because they thought it was early damage control (who knows, it might have been).. funny how it keeps on changing.. not just from ps360 fans/PRs, but also that of nintendo

Yup, I heard of those arguments when the DS and PSP were competing with each other. Both companies back then claimed that they are not competing with each other, and yet there is no avoiding competition.

They are not in the same league though.

Wii will solo run this gen to astronomical numbers.

The other 2 will get decent sales because of people having 2 consoles but nothing more.

Double standards appear in all facets of life, this is just one.

But this is true, nonetheless.

 I don't buy this split market dichotomy that people always bring up in relation to the Wii.  There's no doubt that Nintendo's Blue Ocean strategy is working, but to conclude that some who buys a Wii is less likely to also by a PS360 is a bit of a stretch.  A lot of people who bought the Wii are hardcore gamers, that's undeniable.  Given Wii's lack of HD support, horsepower, and exclusive games like GTAIV, etc.  I'd say many Wii owners are likely to go PS360 to complement their Wii (and vise-versa if you want Zelda, Mario Galaxy, Smash, etc).
