Forums - Gaming Discussion - Why do your prefer console or computer gaming to the other?

We were talking about this today and rather than completely derailing a thread I decided to ask it here.

Personally, I'm pretty lazy and that's one of the reasons why console gaming appeals to me. I could always keep a PC decently up to date without a problem but I just don't like going through the effort. But that's not the real reason why I prefer console gaming, this is why I prefer console gaming:

is great than

I just find the comfort and a screen bigger than 20" to be so much better than sitting hunched over at a desk. I can hook my computer up to my TV, sure, but that's again a hassle. I have to hook up the computer or laptop, and a mouse and keyboard is never comfortable on the lap.

So what's your preference and why?

I prefer my PC because it's cheaper to play games on PC than either PS3 or Xbox 360.

PC has much more versatility and costumization, and the games are cheaper and better than the console counterparts.

If I wanted I could just as easily connect my PC to the TV and sit on my sofa and play my games with a controller.

PC is awesome!!!

Pretty much the same as yours. Console, Couch, Big TV, Lazy, Etc. I tried hooking my PC up to my TV once, had a trackball mouse and this weird USB keypad thing. Worked pretty well, but it just felt odd. Might have had something to do with there's a lot of stuff on my PC that I'm not comfortable being broadcasted on my TV. That and I use it for things other than games, and for that I want to go back to my desk and work.

EDIT: Oh yeah, you can rent console games. Not so much on a computer. That's a big pro for me.

My preference and reasons are similar to yours, twesterm. Additionally, local multiplayer (the biggest reason) and control type (gamepad) are significant factors for me. I also like (typically) not having to worry about installs, upgrades, patches, et cetera, though these are becoming more of an issue with consoles as time progresses.

Hates Nomura.

Consoles big time.

I think PC gaming is extremely uncomfortable, and I find most PC game controls very awkward (other than RTSs) and frustrating.

I love when I get to use the household's Wii with the 50". But I'm just incredibly addicted to my PC, I'd totally do my PC if the USB drives were a bit smaller. You heard. I don't think you'll ever get me wanting to play an FPS, MMO, or RTS/TBS on a console over a PC.

Well, it depends. Console games (especially Nintendo ones) have a certain feel to them that PC games don't have. It's hard to describe.

Sometimes I prefer to play a console, but at present I find myself with the computer more often. It does help that I play computer games on something a lot bigger than 20 inches (42 inches of computer gaming goodness), and I also like the power of PC hardware and the customizability (is that even a word?) of the games.

(very old picture, but more or less accurate)

Console gaming, because I prefer the controller, a bigger screen, surround sound, and a la-z-boy recliner. =)

Another huge thing is that the computer screen hurts my eyes after a while, because I have to sit close. With console gaming, I can sit much farther away, still see what I'm doing, and not have my eyes burned.

I like them both.

The PC for WRPG's, and MMO's. The consoles for action games.

I have moved primarily to consoles in the last few years, because games have moved there. I follow the games, and the best games currently (MGO, GTA4, GT5:p, F2, Uncharted, R&C, MA (for now), etc... can only be played on consoles.

I love games, I will buy whatever I need to in order to play them :)

I enjoy playing games on my PC more then on any console. The PC is always on the cutting edge of technology, provided you don't mind paying for it. The PC also caters to certain genres that I enjoy. I also appreciate almost being "locked in" to my games, with the screen in my face and the speakers right next to me. I've never fallen asleep playing a computer game.

You look at how the world went gah gah over Halo and it's sequels. People were excited about that kind of multiplayer online gaming. To console only gamers this was a huge advancement. They didn't realize that's what the PC has been enjoying in all genres; and usually better; the past 15 years. The PC releases at least 5 first person shooters, every year, that are better then whatever the current Halo is, and every single one of them has a better control scheme with the keyboard and mouse.

PC gaming is a whole different breed and mentality. I enjoy it more.

Ok I did my part, I bought No More Heroes, but they were out of Zach and Wiki.

Ok got Zach and Wiki, now if I could just finally finish Twilight Princess so I can play all these Wii games I got waiting. And no I won't buy Okami.

DNF, now there is a game that should have been scrapped completely. Reminds me of a kid whose been in school for 12 years and still doesn't know what he wants to do. At one point you just need to man up and get a job.
