I finally got to see this game over the weekend. Are the colors meant to be dull or does my friend have the color settings screwed up?

Everything was gray gray gray.

How much did you watch? If it was at night and he had the gama turned up (so he could see), it looks very gray. It also looks gray when it's raining. Otherwise he has his TV screwed up.

I watched a full night and day. It didn't rain at all. There were colors but they seemed faint. Other games look great on his system though. I'll play with the settings next time.

It may also depend on where you are on the map. Rockstar uses filters (similar to what a cinematographer uses in a film) in order to a) add an artistic feel to the visuals and b) mask any graphical imperfections. Try going to Algonquin (day or night) and you should see the colors pop. That said, this is supposed to be a city, so gray is the dominant color.

I have never liked GTA either, and I don't own a 360 or PS3. My soon-to-be roommate has this game though, so I'm sure I'll play it sometime. I can't imagine that it's really that great though. BTW, I can't stand OoT. It's so flippin' frustrating.

nice review!

At least you did it better than sdf team

the sdf team review was frickin hilarious btw...great review though, i like that you laid out your perspective and where you are coming from.

I've never really got into GTA, but this review (given Zen's love of Wii and the fact he seems to see the same historic faults with GTA as I have) might actually get me to try this.

I was thinking of getting it just to check out the technical achievement, but now it seems there is a good story there too and that makes it seem much more worth while than simply to check out the engine.

Try to be reasonable... its easier than you think...

Around the Network

I completly agree with this review, great read and great work Zen.

“If any creator has not played Mario, then they’re probably not a good creator. That’s something I can say with 100 percent confidence. Mario is, for game creators, the development bible.

About the combat: I don't know why they couldn't just lift the beat 'em up system from The Warriors and use it here. That was a game with some fun combat. But, whatever.

"'Casual games' are something the 'Game Industry' invented to explain away the Wii success instead of actually listening or looking at what Nintendo did. There is no 'casual strategy' from Nintendo. 'Accessible strategy', yes, but ‘casual gamers’ is just the 'Game Industry''s polite way of saying what they feel: 'retarded gamers'."

OOT should be retrospective reviewed to be honest. I played it recently for the first time and it just seems like people only highly rate it because of nostalgia.
Either that or they just haven't played it and blindly assume it's the best game ever.

lol gta IV the reason for HD console ?

u eating glue for breakfast ?

there have been millions of reasons to own a ps3 or a 360.

biased imo

Zenfoldor scores: (My scores)

Resident Evil 4: 9.5 (around 9)

Super Mario Galaxy: 9.5 (around 9)

Ocarina of Time: 10 (around 9)

GTAIV: 9.5 (around 9)

^Ridiculous you are comparing 4 games of a different genre. Overall I say all games are great games and thoroughly deserve a score of 9 out of 10. No game ever deserves a 10. No game is perfect, end of story.

You do know that the only game of a different genre is resident evil right?
