Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Mario Kart Wii (cheap gameplay)

Maybe I'm just having a lot of bad luck with the CPU getting a bunch of items. Lightning and POW seem to be very common when I've got a big lead. Maybe I'm just having some bad luck from time to time.

As much as I like VGChartz, I must be honest. I'm not too interested in the community. Most (I'd say a good 70% of the people here) are too caught up in the fanboyism and politics of gaming, and are mostly just people waiting to ravenously insult another user on the forums. I tried participating in the forums but rather than discuss it seems most of you would rather tear other people down. Why is it necessary to insult everyone who thinks differently than you? Also, not everything here is a fanboy conspiracy. I see the word fanboy here than I do on most forums out there. I'm sorry, I don't want to be a part of a community that's so negative towards everyone all the time. I'd rather go to a place where the people of a forum are more willing to discuss and step away from personal attacks any time someone disagrees with them. I just can't take it anymore.

So I ask, respectfully, that you don't add me. I'll more than likely respond to respectful messages but don't count on me being on the forums too much and don't count on me accepting your friend request.

Sorry for so many posts in rapid succession guys.

And thats the attitude I am talking about. "Clearly I must be good at the game because I can beat it on all difficulties." You should be in first the entire race. I love first because thats where I am most likely to get tripple banana peels, and that means I don't have to hold L to drag items behind me. You get the occasional bad run of luck with a couple items hitting all at once, but 90% of the race you should not be getting hit with anything. If you find yourself in second for most of the race you need to up your skill. You can, and should be in first if you are good at the game.

Usually a big lead comes around. Then it's fine. Although sometimes it's hard to keep when you're hit by so many items at once. I don't always have the items to block a red shell, though. I love this game, though. Especially going online. It's pretty fun then.

You should always have an item to block a red shell. The only time that should no be true is if you were just hit by a blue shell or a lightning bolt. I am becoming more and more convinced pows are dodgeable without a ramp, but if that doesn't pan out then after a pow as well.

Notice though that most of those items hit the whole battlefield. When you start spinning out, so does your opponent and it is back to square one. If you should be beating them then the level playing field created after those items will favor you.

I'm not saying I should be in first place for the whole race or the entire race. I didn't say I find myself in second place, only that I sometimes like to stay in second. I didn't say I never had a good lead or anything like that. I often do. I'm just saying that I seem to get the bad luck of being pummeled by several items at once a little more often than I have in past Mario Kart games.

Yeah, usually it does. I don't always have items, though (or I lose it thanks to Lightning, POW or the Blue Shell). I'm good at the game, but I can't control my luck. Sometimes it just... you know... happens.

I think so too. I once hit the drift button right before I got hit with a POW, and if you watch, you jump a bit before you start to drift (after hitting the drift button). I still spun out, but I it wasn't as bad and I didn't slow down as much (I think I did one spin and then kept going). I haven't been able to do it again, so I can't say for sure.

if you can time a wheelie right before a pow hits you only spin 1 time instead of 3 ....which helps alot . my favorite thing to do when in first is put banana on ramps and bridges so when they fly hit banana they fall down making my lead much greater :) ....God I miss double dash DK giant special bananas those thing were the best.

If you do a hop at just the right moment, you can avoid a POW. But there are also ways to lessen the effect of it. I'm not sure if it works always, but I've hardly been affected by a POW when I'm using a bike and doing a wheelie. I still get hit, but usually I just spin forward. It's barely noticeable.

that is only right if your the only good player on the track brawl4life and the rest are n00bs cause if there are even just one or two other good players, the moment you get nuked so heavily 2nd and 3rd will take over.. so you can stay behind the number 1 waiting for it's imminent doom.. anyway, I need to play this game much more myself before I can comment better about it..

If you are in a race of people with equivalent skill then yes this can be true. Notice the disclaimer though. The more skilled racer will always win. The claim I am disputing is the game is too random and skill is not the ultimate determining factor.

It is absolute bullcrap that the person with the most skill always wins. If people are close in skill it can often come down to luck. You can constantly be trailing a guy for 2 and a half laps and all the sudden that person gets nailed by blue turtle shells and you win. It's been that way for several karts. I have heard from several souces that this Wii version has more ridiculous rubber-banding. brawl4life: yeah, I miss the custom items in DD...
