quaz51 is a french guy (well known on one of the biggest french videogame where i go but he's also on beyond3D and maybe others website) which has a technique to know what is the native resolution of a game before internal upscaling (because all game are 720 or 1080p after !! ) and the AA applied.

he's the man who has obliged bungie to say halo3 is a 640p game.

moreover, he's a PS3 fan !

I really doubt he's lying

Again, he used a screenshot, that he couldnt even confirm was the PS3 version. So no, he was not lying, he was just foolish for using a screenshot he himself did not take.

This stinks...

The end result matters the most. Combining both observations, it may well be both versions are really just rendering in 640p (makes sense as the PS3 version at its core is a 360 port). And Quaz51 was unable to track the same pattern for the 360 version due to post-processing.

PS3 vs 360 sales

the problem is that thanks to these screenshot, he has seen that 360 and PS3 resolution were differents.
why only one of the version should have specials screens ??

moreover, on beyond3D, t is surely possible to get a trusty and good quality screenshot

Those kind of art assests cost a lot more money and completely remove the whole point of being cheaper for developers to utlize.

Having lower technical specs is nothing good. You could develop the same game but have a higher resolution and it would STILL be better. HD resolution doesn't make a game more expensive per se. Seriously the NRDF(Nintendo reality distortion field)  is humming this evening.

Thank you for proving you know nothing about video game development.   My friends in the art departments would like a word with you.

The rEVOLution is not being televised

If I'm reading the article correctly, these guys don't actually understand how upscaling works.

a) I'm very tired of these discussions
b) Quaz51 is a legend in this area, if he says PS3 version is 630 than I'm very inclined to believe him

Could you all now please go and enjoy the game that's going to dethrone Ocarina of Time? Please?

Scaler chips vary with regard to the functionality they can provide, the most basic scaler would only enlarge the image to fit the screen (more pixels to render one source pixel), I am no expect with regard to the 360 scalar chip. The only thing I observed was some weird color correction going on making pictures and videos appear more pink than they would on other devices.

They obviously don't understand what the guys at Beyond3D are doing when they check the rendered resolution of the game. It sounds like they think the output is the rendered resolution, and we all know the output is 720p. The rendered resolution, however, is 640p.

I don't have to remind anyone here that the techniques used at beyond3d, aside from being very simple and easy to understand, have been proven to work in the past. They also discovered that Halo 3 wasn't rendering in an HD resolution, which Bungee promptly admitted and downplayed.

Beyond3D hasn't been wrong yet.

Leo-J: Do you seriously expect us to believe a writer at gamesradar who obviously didn't take the time to understand how the rendered resolution is determined instead of someone who has been right every time he's done this?

The source came from someone on neo gaff, and a poster from beyond3d.
