You know what. Don't look at the HIGHEST RATED GAME as THE BEST GAME OF ALL TIME. Games aren't reviewed for all time are they? So why say the game is going to be the best game of all time when you know a future game will eventually replace it. Instead say it is the BEST GAME FOR ITS TIME. That would be more correct. It would also make this thread / and I would love that.

I agree 100%, and that's what I was trying to say when I got flamed (in my other post). :)

I think its the way you said it. You should have never said GTA IV was better than OoT. You put an opinion in a thread about facts, and that is where people got pissed off. I for one believe they are too much of different games to compare even thought hey are the same genre. Now I might prefer OoT because I had more fun, even though if I never played it , and just played it now I wouldn't have as much. Next time just keep the opinions out, like I did in the thread that I just made about this subject.

reviews don't matter, the GameFAQs top 50 FAQ pages is the only source that matters. that shows you what game are still played by the hardcore gamers, and the last ten years, FFVII rules supreme..

So, let me use different subject matter to say the same thing, and tell me if you have the same opinion.

If I bought the best TV in the 1950's, and it was light years ahead of any TV before it, I can say it's the best TV of its time.

If I buy the best TV on the market today, I can say it's the best TV of it's time.

But if I compare the best TV today, to the best TV of the 50's, and by todays standards call the 50's TV worse, I am incorrect?

at the end of the day, Cloud just summons Kights of the Round and blasts Master Chief, Link and that GTA IV guy to oblivion, and beyond.. :P

You are correct. In this case it's different though. Games don't automatically get better if they are released later for example look at Ninjabread Man, and Chicken shoot. Games are too diverse from eachother to compare them as accurately as you compare the tvs. I have more fun playing FF6 than I do FF12, because it's a better game. You do though have to compare a game by how much fun you have imo. That is the point of games to have fun, and if you don't have fun then the game automatically gets a 1. If you do have fun then you have to consider how much fun. In this case I believe I have more fun playing OoT than Gta IV, but that doesn't mean that you would think the same. Game reviews are basically opinions, and shouldn't be the only thing you do before you get a game. Now the reviews are based of the time period , and you compare other games in this same time period rather than other games in previous ones. I could count countless games that came out before GTA IV and OoT that I like more. You just can't do it in this linear way.  So in conclusion what I'm trying to say ( I don't know if this is what you are trying to say) Games are as good as how much fun you get from them. Games Reviews are opinions, and shouldn't be tooken too seriously, and Game Reviews should be compared to other games similar to the game such as it's predecessors, or rivaling games, and by the time period this game was released. Game Reviews Scores are so skewed I look at the content anymore rather than the scores.

A better analogy.

If I compared the best movies of the 1950's to the best movies of the 2000's, guess which ones are better?   Damn sure aren't todays.

In fact, lets look at all entertainment mediums.   Music, books, movies, art, etc....all are considered to have been better in the past.   Just because some is more technically advanced today, doesn't make it any better than yesterdays greats.

The rEVOLution is not being televised

Eh, I'm gonna be honest and just say it. I feel OoT is one of the most overrated games of all time. It's one of the best, but at the same time extremely overrated. OoT to me feels like the kid that got perfect grades in school, but when that kid got out into the real world he didn't get that great of a job. OoT is flawless, but lacks so much in the substance department. It was immersive, but everything you could do in terms of sidequests and minigames was useless. They're good for doing them, but the rewards were practically just there to be there. Even for the main quest, they were useless because the bosses were so easy to beat. The fishing minigame was unique, but alas a heart piece really isn't much of an award. While OoT improved in terms of environments from LttP, the action from fighting monsters was decreased and not nearly as fast paced, nor were they nearly as difficult as enemies took off less damage. The pacing was pretty slow as well for an action game.

I believe this is the first time I've used this word on this forum, but you were flamed because you're a fanboy. Your reasons and deductions are ludicrous. Your aggressive nature towards the game in question is obvious.

You have been trumpeting GTA IV since the day the reviews started to leak out. You eventually realized that people weren't so readily going to accept it as the Second Coming and became deathly afraid of that fact when you realized what was blocking that road: Ocarina of Time. From that point you have done nothing but crusade against that game in thread after thread.

You talk about getting flamed as if you didn't bring it on yourself. Zelda as a franchise is over 20 years old and Ocarina of Time has had nearly a decade to sink into gaming history as an important part of it. It should come as no surprise to you that it has a loyal fanbase, and yet you tease and aggravate them like a fool poking a hungry lion with a tree branch. You have made threads for the sole purpose of trying to force your opinion of GTA and OoT down people's throats, using analogies and conclusions that, quite frankly, don't make any amount of sense. When you fail to change the world, you start the process all over again. When backed into a corner, you continue to cry and complain about the earlier lashings you recieved before, of course ignoring the fact that you brought it on yourself.

I think you very well knew that the review you were talking about had no relevance to GTA IV. I think that instead, you thought the OoT fans wouldn't be smart or perceptive enough to catch your bluff, possibly attempting to back down or apologize for this since you haven't been able to make any progress yourself in the slightest. When caught, you predictably back into the corner, pretending to be the victim. "The OoT fanboys are rabid! Make them stop! They are flaming me!"

I think there are so rabid OoT fanboys out there, but at the moment I would say that we have one rabid GTA IV fan too many.

The whole argument is that OoT was called "the perfect game" and has aged very well. Ppl simply don't want a game that isn't perfect to supplant a perfect game. If a game is worthy then it should be placed at #1, but if it does have issues, then can it be called #1?

No game is perfect. OoT has aged well in your opinion, I disagree. I think Zelda: TP can completely replace it now and you wouldn't lose anything. On the other hand, Mario 64 has aged much better.

Thanks to Blacksaber for the sig!
