"while rejecting such tired casual crap as Wii Fit."

I love how you just referred to a ground breaking and revolutionary new game that has just created it's very own genre as tired.

I'm a mod, come to me if there's mod'n to do.

Chrizum is the best thing to happen to the internet, Period.

Serves me right for challenging his sales predictions!

Bet with dsisister44: Red Steel 2 will sell 1 million within it's first 365 days of sales.

Haha, the pwnage is strong in this thread.

Edit: You know that was sarcasm, right stof?

@Baddgame he means it in the context that game companies are increasingly having to make mainstream crap just to stay afloat, games are becoming less original, and less contraversial. By saying f**k casual games, he means that rockstar aren't going to give into monetary pressures and begin making minigame compilations

Dude, you can't get much more "mainstream crap" then Sandbox games. Though to be fair Rockstar are the ones who made them mainstream.

I was mocking the interviewee, stof. It's not that I don't think there's a place for refining what we already have, and I know a lot of people are loving Grand Theft Auto right now. But I still find the man's stance a tad ironic.

I think your sarcasm detector needs some calibration.

BTW whats so groundbreaking about GTA almost the same but with improved graphics

I can see, you never played the game.

It's a sandbox game, that had far more time put into the sandbox then the game.

So while there is a story you can follow, if that's all you did, you would experience 5% of what it has to offer.

I think it's also the first game of its kind with multiplayer. (I could be wrong)

It got 10's from most everyone for reasons other then "almost the same but with improved graphics"

Maybe he just got though playing it, and he is tired? :p

lol, I love the h8 once every month mainstream title developers have to spew something, there should be some way to keep track, a new Bingo game prehaps or maybe a new addition to the Bingo game.

Either way he just grew some nads after the sales of his game reached amazing hieghts big woop. But I remember people even Source claiming GTA is a casual game.

So what's he really on about?

Like what really is affecting these guys? Is casual the buzz word on their end?

Did it hurt his business in any way? Unreal 3 and weeks later after it's success their Dev blabs, Gears dev blabs now even GTA vp blabs... what's happening here.

If it was just dev's you'd figure their getting pressure from executives, but now its a VP... so the pressure's coming from share holders?

I'm Unamerica and you can too.

The Hunt Begins 4/20/2010 =D

I understand why he's saying this as there's a sizeable core fanbase, a good portion of whom look down on casual gaming. But we need to remember complaining about games made for the mainstream is pretty stupid as most if not all gamers at one point got into gaming through a casual title. Mario, Pong, Tetris are some classic examples of iconic franchises which helped hook people into video games by being casual and approachable to anybody. I'd say it's a safe bet that many of the people working at Rockstar Houser, if they have been gamers for a long time as many other devs are, initially got into gaming with one of those "casual" titles.

On top of that GTA is a casual title. Lately people have started attributing the term "casual game" to minigame compilations with waggle but that's not accurate at all. GTA has always been more of a casual title which explains how the worst selling GTA on PS2 outsold the best selling FF by close to 3 million.
