Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Iwata - thinking about Wii storage solution

http://blog.wired.com/games/2008/05/iwata-teases-po.html

“Statistically speaking, it is true that there are a small number of customers who feel that the flash memory is too small, while many others find that they have plenty of memory. However, because this small number of people are none other than the most avid players, we know we have to review the best possible solution to eliminate their inconvenience.”

I hope they do somthing before the summer, when I get some Wii Ware games, my Wii memory will be maxed out.

Do you think they will sell a HDD or VC and Wii Ware games to play from the SD card ?

I don't like how he starts off that paragraph...

With Wiiware coming they've got to do something, even if it's just allowing you to play off your SD card.

I'm a mod, come to me if there's mod'n to do.

Chrizum is the best thing to happen to the internet, Period.

Serves me right for challenging his sales predictions!

Bet with dsisister44: Red Steel 2 will sell 1 million within it's first 365 days of sales.

I heard there were a Wii Ware game at 64MB. They have to make a cheap harddrive or else the Wii will look expensive.

Prep talk for a WiiHDD, me thinks. A proprietary drive that will allow you to launch from. Probably cost a little more than a regular USB drive, but, it will allow Nintendo the security they want and give those of us who need more room a good choice. It would probably be 20GB at the greatest. Being as there is no multimedia support, 5GB or 10GB would more than likely be more than enough for anyone.

The harddrive sounds like a better solution, but I think if they opened up SD card functionality, it would probably solve the problem just as well...

I think what he means is that even though most Wii owners don't buy lots of downloads, the few that do buy truckloads of downloads, so making sure those owners can buy more is certainly important.

A flashy-first game is awesome when it comes out. A great-first game is awesome forever.

Plus, just for the hell of it: Kelly Brook at the 2008 BAFTAs

Just make it so you can play games and savegames off of SD card, 2,5GB is more than enough for 99% of the Wii owners.

Nintendo is going to need some kind of space solution with Wiiware becoming a reality in the not-so-distant future.

I think that Nintendo will make a proprietary SD card that will only work on the wii and the SD card will lock it's self to the specific wii it's put into making it useless for any other wii but at the same time they will allow games to boot off the SD card.

This way they protect their content from being pirated, and at the same time expand the storage capacity which should resolve the issue of running out of space, well that's what I think Nintendo will do.

I like the proprietary SD card, no moving parts and protection from being pirated. makes everyone happy !

Lets hope they support the SDHC format (32 gig).
