Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Wii's "Big Hitters" Averaging low 80's in Reviews..No One Cares?

Ok guys, can someone tell me what year or decade or score nintendo got a free pass in by reviewers?

I'm having a hard time googling it.

Aside from 1 or 2 games most games in the 9.5+ range have been for the last decade SNES, PS2, PSX and X360 titles.

Many of them for the SNES were 3rd party, oops cats out of the bag.

Reviewers are draged by self hype, their like the retailers, they live for big games like GTA.

Litterally it helps put food on the table.

I'm going to read a few more of these reviews because the more I think about it the less it makes sense with what I've seen.

I'm Unamerica and you can too.

I just think its funny that Wii Fit and Mario Kart Wii both average under 83% (meaning they are about as good as Heavenly Sword) yet no one seems to care. Is Wii Fit the last big hitter announced this year for the Wii?

I mean they will probably still sell, but it will just prove once again that the Wii sells any crappy game with Wii or Mario infront of it. Im happy to see that reviewers have stopped giving Nintendo a free pass on games and actually started judging by quality over hype. Is there anything left on the Wii for the rest of the year thats already announced or are they going to pull and EA and release Mario____08 with updated rosters?

They gotta have something big planned for E3, but if they announce Wii cooking or anything of that nature I think im going to piss myself from laughter, lol.

I don't consider games with 80% average crappy but that's just my opinion.

According to many on this site when Heavenly Sword was released its 80% was crappy. I really dont think Heavenly Sword is nearly as hyped as these two mediocre games. While I dont think review scores matter, its just kinda dealing the blow back to Nintendo fanboy hypocrites.

You all say this and that about how the PS3 sucks and gets low review scores. But hell, two of the biggest Wii games of the year just flopped in terms of quality. They might sell a lot, but just reaffirms that Nintendo owns its console entirely and third party developers might as well not even make an effort placing games on the platform, unless they plan to put Mario in it.

But quality doesn't matter on the Wii. Its a console MADE for shovelware. Nintendo can sell as many consoles as they want to (and they will be happy) but as far as fanboys go you can't be taken seriously. The Wii isn't anything but a quick way to make money for developers. Putting anything worthwhile on the console wont matter because

1. Anything you make on the console won't ever be appreciated for its artistic quality.

2. Regardless of how good or bad a game is on the console it just needs to meet two specic requirements to sell well. Why spend money/time and effort/ your main IP on the Wii when in the long run it won't even matter?

The Wii has gone from being extremely threatening to old style gaming to a device that is irrelevant to mainstream gaming everywhere but Japan. Its the cool thing to have, but no one really considers it to be next gen must own console. Its simply a Wii, a piece of hardware that hooks up to the TV that enables you to use the Wii-mote. What games do you get to use the Wii-mote on? Who the f*ck cares! Just give them any image on screen with a known character to shake the controller at and most people dont care.

(I can't believe how big this thread has gotten! Sweeeeet. Just wait until MGS4 releases when the Wii has absolutely nothing on the table. I wonder how defensive marioboys will get then when the PS3 starts outselling it WW for a couple of weeks )

Hahaha, you said marioboys.  You're totally nuts.

You said Wii's irrelevant to mainstream gaming everywhere but Japan.  This makes me laugh because it is the dominant console in every single territory and is creating new gamers.  THE WII IS MAINSTREAM GAMING.  The PS3 and 360 are fighting for 2nd place with their "niche" HD graphics... which are irrelevant to fun factor, and sales.

You also said Wii games will NEVER be appreciated for their artistic quality.  This makes me laugh because it's just total bullshit.  Games on every system ever are appreciated for their artistic quality.  The art itself is the most expensive facet of any game on any system.

Nice move with MGS4 though, considering MGS games have NEVER EVER been half as big as a GTA or a Halo.  GTA4 was the last time you got to pull a "wait until game x."  It's over.  It's done.  Stop it.  Please.  Go hide under your bridge and eat some babies.

That post was blatant flamebait Jandre. You've been riding a fine line with making the topic at all, but you have no right to generalize quality or the opinions of millions of gamers with your own opinion. This is a warning.

Thank you for saving the trouble of writting that whole thing out. Also sad but true fact MGS might be a great franchise but it's not a seller, very few people outside guys who go to VG websites know about it.

See heres the thing. Say a brand new VR device gets released and everyone loves it. It sells out immediately and can't stay on shelves anywhere. Say that device is made by Sega and and they say its a gaming device. Does that mean that everyone else is now 2nd or third? Does that make that Sega device the ULTIMATE console for the generation? Its not the mainstream console if not one gives a crap. Their biggest games are mediocre and played out. No big games are even in the lineup that matter, and even if they do "GO BIG" the biggest thing they can shoot for is possibly on the level of the worst PS3/360 games in terms of graphics and physics. How long can the Wii-mote support the hype with shovelware bringing it down? Probably for awhile, but how does that benefit Wii fanboys or slow down the inevitable progress of the other consoles with price cuts and bigger games to come?

And GTA is the last of big anticipated titles? HAHAHAHA. Really because MGS4, GT5, Socom, Resistance, White Knight Story, Little Bi....you know what I'm not going to do that again. THIS ISN'T THE WII! We don't have to wait for the next installment of Mario-WhoGivesAShitJustBuyIt to have a game even worth a trip to the local store.

See mainstream gaming means that GAMERS actually give sh*t aboe Aut your game, and it actually contains some level of innovation (right shams?). Past Wii-Mote and Mario Galaxy what has been innovative at all about the Wii? Its "fun" and it sells. It doesn't effect any sales, it has no real reason to sustain sales this year, but it will simply because its the Wii, and I doubt any mainstream developer has given up on the HD consoles and moved to Wii exclusive developement. ESPECIALLY after GTA. The Wii is the shovelware platform. Its where you can make a quick buck why spending minimal amonts of effort. It hasn't dominated hardware enough to become the new PS2, and hasn't sold enough third party software to shift and developement efforts.

But it probably STILL sell boatloads. Good for Nintendo, lol. But come next gen Nintendo will right back where they were with the gamecube. They can only pull that wii-mote trick out of their hats once.

Lol.

Well, Reviews are made by gamers for gamers, and on "old", I mean basic point of view.

No Casual care about reviews. Should they ?

It would be like basing your shopping list as if you were a Master Cook

Who cares about it, as last as it is good ?

I've never seen someone so intensely bitter and angry because something exists. Does the Wii bother you so much? You talk about "Nintendo fanboy hypocrites," why do you care about them so much? It sounds like a personal vendetta and you're simply using the Wii as a platform to attack. Or perhaps it's the other way around; you hate the Wii so much you need to use "fanboys" as a reason to rant bitterly about it. Are the review scores a facade? You say these games "flopped" by quality but review scores don't determine quality. They're just opinions and not everyone needs to listen to them.

I don't recall anyone saying the PS3 sucks for the short time I've been posting. I've seen people complain about delays. I've also read elaborate theories about how the Nintendo fans here gather to plot against Sony platforms. But no one's said it gets low review scores. And even if they did, that's actually quite meaningless. Do you put so much weight on other people's opinions that you would be so offended by the assertion that PS3 games actually did get low review scores? It seems to be the majority of the basis for your Wii attacks.

Really, I've never met someone who put so much weight on review scores on any other forum. It's unhealthy, really.

I am SuperLloyd!

(Im)patiently awaiting the Dawn of the New World!

What?!? I must be confused.... But since when is a game that receives an 83% a bad game???? Since when is a game the receives a 70% a bad game??? I could understand a 42%, namely Target: Terror, being a bad game, but then again IGN (which gave the game the worst score, so far) calls it "One of the worst - and best - games of 2008."

They also say "Is it actually a good game? No, not at all, not by a long shot, and especially not at the $40 price tag (is Konami nuts?). In fact, without the humor factor we’d say it plays worse than almost anything on the system. It has its market though, and that market just got done telling you how hilariously awesome this painfully poor game is."

So since when is a 83% game a bad game?

a lot of new members posting today, nice.
