Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Wii's "Big Hitters" Averaging low 80's in Reviews..No One Cares?

Jandre002 said:

I just think its funny that Wii Fit and Mario Kart Wii both average under 83% (meaning they are about as good as Heavenly Sword) yet no one seems to care. Is Wii Fit the last big hitter announced this year for the Wii?

I mean they will probably still sell, but it will just prove once again that the Wii sells any crappy game with Wii or Mario infront of it. Im happy to see that reviewers have stopped giving Nintendo a free pass on games and actually started judging by quality over hype. Is there anything left on the Wii for the rest of the year thats already announced or are they going to pull and EA and release Mario____08 with updated rosters?

They gotta have something big planned for E3, but if they announce Wii cooking or anything of that nature I think im going to piss myself from laughter, lol.

I don't consider games with 80% average crappy but that's just my opinion.

Reviews are important and useful, maybe it's not important for wii owners, but before i unload 60 dollars for a game, i make sure the reviews are good. Lair, anyone.

I'd rather play Lair than Oblivion. I'd much rather play Baten Kaitos or Baten Kaitos Origins than Final Fantasy XII.

Honestly, reviews have done nothing for me. One of my most hated games of all time (Oblivion) is one of the highest reviewed games ever made. I'd rather play games that are fun.  Reviews are opinions.  Worse yet, they are opinions from a demographic of nothing but 25 year old males who's entire life is video games. There is no diversity in review audiences.

I've been playing Mkwii, and the review doesn't matter to me now, Its the best Mario Kart I've played in a long time, so to me its a perfect 10

that's you though, it's like comparing drama to comedy. i prefer serious movies to comedies, but i always make sure i read the reviews of dramas before i see them as it is easier to deal with a bad comedy to a bad dramatic movie.

Review are important to "hardcore" gamers, but a lot of good games get bad scores, M&S is very fun, a lot more than somes 9 games.

its kind of the other way around, theyre not giving in, theyre afraid of giving the games the scores they deserve.

That makes no sense. I obviously don't hate the WRPG genre as one of my favorite games of all time is Fallout 2. I compared 2 JRPGs to one other JRPG that scored signifficantly higher. They are the same genre, but one game is not fun at all and the other 2 are a lot of fun. The review scores had nothing to do with that.

The fact is that good reviews don't make a game good and bad reviews don't make a game bad. They just show the opinions of a group of a few dozen people who all have the same careers in the same industry and are the same age and the same sex in the same demographic.

@Psrock

Wait, you said that it was just him (so it couldn't really be trusted) and then you countered with your own personal opinion?

Review scores haven't done anything good for me.

Reviews made me buy Re4 - one of the bottom 5 games I've ever owned

Reviews almost turned me away from buying Fire Emblem: Radiant Dawn - one of the top 10 games I've ever played.

Reviews make me have to reply to stupid posts like this one, because I'm so friggin stupid I can't handle stupidity :(

Sum up if you didn't read the above (do not read if you did)

Reviews rule!

I rate my post 10/10

You have a point, it's really a personal choice which game is good or bad. But, with a college student's budget and so many games to choose from, i always go with the best reviewed games. A choice between Uncharted vs Turoc, guess whic game i am buying.
