This isn't really about the brief GTA outage, but more the reaction to it that I am reading here:
I expect a little fanboyism on this site, but I have to say that the Sony forum almost always wins for blind loyalty.
When the PS3 launched and PSN/Home etc. were all being pimped, we were all expecting to get much more out of our online experience than we are now. We all thought we would have a Live-like experience for free, with maybe not ALL of the features, but at least more than we have. It is now almost May of 2008 and what have we got?
Virtually no improvement over launch, other than the visual nature of the store. That's it.
And the response from fans is that "Well the next firmware update will change everything." Bull. Look at how many updates there have been. What makes you think the next one will give us a better online experience.
If Nintendo or MS were stringing along the consumer about features or support, which they both are in some ways, a lot of the same people giving Sony a pass are like "Wii sux" or "360 is a Red-ringed nuclear waste dump". It's just ridiculuous.
This is one area Sony deserves to be ripped - because it's an area that they are WAY behind. And it sucks, because they have this great capable machine and they aren't developing the tools for it to work. It's like having a Ferrari and no tires and as an owner who paid for the car, you saying, "oh that's ok. I'm sure they will ship me the tires NEXT month!" I for one am tired of waiting.
Was Live being down a month worse? Hell yes. But does that make flaws in PSN ok? No. That's like saying, "Well yes I beat my child, but that other guy killed his, so I'm doing fine."
