Forums - Sony Discussion - GTAIV online down on PSN?

This isn't really about the brief GTA outage, but more the reaction to it that I am reading here:

I expect a little fanboyism on this site, but I have to say that the Sony forum almost always wins for blind loyalty.

When the PS3 launched and PSN/Home etc. were all being pimped, we were all expecting to get much more out of our online experience than we are now. We all thought we would have a Live-like experience for free, with maybe not ALL of the features, but at least more than we have. It is now almost May of 2008 and what have we got?

Virtually no improvement over launch, other than the visual nature of the store. That's it.

And the response from fans is that "Well the next firmware update will change everything." Bull. Look at how many updates there have been. What makes you think the next one will give us a better online experience.

If Nintendo or MS were stringing along the consumer about features or support, which they both are in some ways, a lot of the same people giving Sony a pass are like "Wii sux" or "360 is a Red-ringed nuclear waste dump". It's just ridiculuous.

This is one area Sony deserves to be ripped - because it's an area that they are WAY behind. And it sucks, because they have this great capable machine and they aren't developing the tools for it to work. It's like having a Ferrari and no tires and as an owner who paid for the car, you saying, "oh that's ok. I'm sure they will ship me the tires NEXT month!" I for one am tired of waiting.

Was Live being down a month worse? Hell yes. But does that make flaws in PSN ok? No. That's like saying, "Well yes I beat my child, but that other guy killed his, so I'm doing fine."

Can't we all just get along and play our games in peace?

I honestly don't know where some of the trolls are coming up with how PSN is a inferior online service? When I play online, I look for one main thing. That it's up and working and I can get a fairly lag free experience. (That can be dependent on other peoples connections, so I cannot fault sony on that). I've never been disappointed by the PSN's quality and it's been up and solid far more then temporary blips here and there for certain games during maintenance. When a online game on the PSn goes down, it doesn't halt ALL online games liek Live does. I still have a choice to go to MGO, or COD4, or whatever I want should I want to play GTA4 online and get some multiplayer smackdowns.

That said, I haven't attempted to log online for GTA4 until I have gone further into the game on singleplayer. :)

My pokemon brings all the nerds to the yard. And they're like, "You wanna trade cards?" Damn right, I wanna trade cards. I'll trade this, but not my charizard.

With MGO and GTAIV at the same time, I'm not shocked...

Just have it up as soon as possible please, if it's as bad as XBL's Christmas present delay, it'd suck!

Man watching Starcraft and DmeisterJ go at is hilarious. All the snide remarks with smileys tossed in.

it's like they are throwing spears at each other with little gifts attached to pretend they don't actually want to harm each other.

Exactly.  What site did those head-to-head comparisons, 4 games at a time... was it Gamespot?  Anyway, CoD4 and some other games on PS3 got the nod over the 360 versions largely because PSN's online gameplay was lag-free compared to that on XBL.

And it's free.  And it doesn't go down as often (let's see if this outage is as bad as XBL's in January...).

Thanks for starting this thread, starcraft.  Exceptions often help to prove the rule.

Actually, DMeisterJ is EASILY the coolest person I know on VGC.

Death be upon him.

starcraft - Playing Games = FUN, Talking about Games = SERIOUS

PSN is back up. Just been playing MGO, which is awesome.

Well said. SONY is far, far behind in online. Give credit where credit is due. MS put a lot of money in to LIVE and its reaping benefits. I was in Wal Mart yesterday picking up GTA IV (after going to 4 others electronic stores who were out of the 360 version, but no the PS3) and I asked the cronie there how sales were going. He went up to the counter and gave me a 33-7 score (360 over PS3). They also said they sold out of their remaining 12-360's. No PS3 sales. Having exclusive downloadable content seems to be making a difference...

I don't know, I'm seeing more humor than anything especially considering it's been the same people debating GTAIV on the PS3 and 360 back and forth for like the past week or more. Not only that, this problem is because of the traffic swamping the servers (as Starcraft even points out in the first post).

I would say that you're two posts (mainly your first one) here have the most 'blind fanboyism' in them. It looks like this issue has been taken care of, which makes the 'PSN=fail' comment seem hilariously like blind fanboyism in this thread. You're saying people who enjoy playing on their PS3's are apparently lacking in an ability so see a problem with it while they trash everything else while making trashing comments yourself. *smacks head*

So if you're not sent into a rage if something happens in the news, you must be a blind fanboy. That's not to say there aren't people who will be 100% praisful or hateful, but that's something that's pretty stupid to do. In fact, I would say it's rather humurous to watch somebody devote all of their time to trashing the PS3, 360, or Wii.

@ illegal

if you look through all my posts, you'll find that:

A. I have a PS3 and like it very much other than the fact that Sony are lying bastards who keep promising stuff that they don't deliver.

B. I am not a fanboy of anything except Halo and have repeatedly admitted that I would buy the biggest turd in the world if it said Halo on it. I have no objectivity when it comes to that subject.

C. I rarely go crazy over anything or anything except hypocrisy or flatout lies on the part of posters or the companies.

D. The two times I HAVE gotten worked up, you were the first one in line to be comment about it, and I'm not sure what that means.
