Forums - Gaming Discussion - The Wii isnt competing with next gen consoles, its competing with last gen

So what you're saying is that the videogames industry is experiencing a horrible crash?

I mean, the HD consoles together aren't selling as much as the three consoles of the previous generation at the same point in their lives, so something terrible must be going on.

Tomorrow this thread will be torn a new one, and the ferocity of the replies will rip a whole in the space-time continuum and we will all enjoy the show. But seriously, like twestern said, theres too many problems with this, but everything will be pointed out tomorrow...........

WTF..

Error..too much stupidy..Argh. Can`t stand

yes, PS2 and Wii are competing each other ...

BUT

Wii is not last gen,
it is maybe more next gen than PS360 according to the amazing sales ...

Time to Work !

I use the same excuse whenever I lose a game of Basketball... "Oh, I wasn't actually playing you, I was just playing by myself. The fact that you scored more points than me is irrelevant"

I expect more threads like this one when NPD numbers for April and May are in and show that the Wii is still outselling PS3 and X360 by far, even GTA IV will not do anyrhing about that.

I think, Wii is competing with every gen and winning.

when you think about it, it is, and when talking about last gen, its all about the PS2. The dreamcast, the xbox and the cube cant outsell the ps2 last gen even those consoles have better specs than the PS2. With 130 million users so far, "it tells alot". I mean, how many times did Nintendo says they arent competing with 360 and the PS3?

So how will you beat a console that is still selling over 5 years in its lifespan? Sorry for Wii fans there that Wii needs original exclusive games but to compete with the ps2 they will beat them in their own game by "multiplats". Fight Night Round 3 have its own version in the PS2 even it is supposed to be in next gen system, and with those downgrading it says alot. There are also games that are in Ps3 and 360 that are ported in PS2. Now you see that PS2 is succesful till now because even though the games are downgraded ports, developers still ported it in PS2. PS2 was the king of multiplatform next to PC and with its cheap price and you dont need a HDTV to play with it, this console will still be the king of console even this generation end.

Then came the Wii, so how will it beat the PS2? By doing nothing. YEP, NOTHING... Asides from the wiimote and now with wiifit theres nothing the Wii has to offer, not only that the system specs are form last gen, the spec was from the last gen that can even support PSP and PS2 graphics, so its easy for developers to just port any PSP/PS2 game to it without making it from the ground up. Which also the Wii's important features, if developers even though they ported a ps3/360 game into PS2 which is hard because of its downgrading, why not the Wii.

THAT and the exclusives wether 1st party or 3rd party and good advertisement toward the casuals could fall the PS2 to its pedestal. Remember, Nintendo can just refuse ports and shovelwares right now, but they dont. Instead, theyre encouraging it. Which means they want the PS2 ports to come to their system.

Since nobody else wants to give a semi-serious responce before the lock comes I will.

In your first sentence you ask us to think and then you cease to do so yourself. Plain and simple the economics of the situation are clear. People who own a Wii buy Wii games...and money spent on a Wii and Wii games is the same type of income (ie disposable income) that is spent on PS3 and 360 games. So what you have is gamers...buying games from all the consoles ...using the money from the same source....so what do you have??? COMPETITION! Each console competes for the cash in every gamer's wallet, they are competing for the same $$$ and thus they are competing. I'm glad we thought about it and came to the right conclusion....don't feel bad you had the right idea just needed better follow through.

The rest of your post is talking about how the Wii is going to beat the PS2, which is pointless since the PS2 will be done selling new units within a few years and then the PS2 truly won't be competing anymore (not on an impactful level anyways). In any case it seems at least reasonably possible that the Wii will be able to beat the PS2's lifetime install base given the increased market size thanks to Blue Ocean, so either way the point is somewhat moot.

But you don't stop there you actually claim that the Wii isn't as powerful as last gen systems and that it has literally nothing to offer and other ignorant statements as well.

The only thing I can say to that is: For your sake I hope english is a second language, because in parts it was hard to make out intelligable thought and I sort of had to wing it a bit. I'm not being sarcastic either I seriously wasn't even sure if some of it was english.
