Why is Nintendo Wii dominating Sony PS3 and Microsoft 360?

It's because it even appeals to people who never touched a standard controller in their lives, or ever dreamed of doing it. Those are the people that make up the majority of the buying public...

And becasue of the low price you have to pay to get it running at its best (don't need that hdtv to take advantage of the gfx).

Prediction: The PS3 will surpass the 360 on weekly sales after it drops to $299 on all regular weeks (no big releases).

Mostly due to novelty.

The controller has not seen a major change for two dozen years. Now something fresh comes out and is widely available, so people, who do or don't play traditional video games, want to try it. They have heard about it in the media, so they have to experience it in person.

And despite that Wii has sold 24 million, the number of people that have not had a chance to get their hands on a Wii far exceeds the number that have bought or played one.

That's why it continues to sell at an amazing speed, and continues to slaughter the competitors.

Will it slow down? Perhaps. But before everybody finds out what Wii is all about, it will have sold over 100 million.

So, when 360 basically stopped selling right after E3 06 or PS3 selling at much lower rate than its predecessor, it's suddenly because of what? People getting bored in gaming (which would prove Nintendos strategy correct, since the previous market wouldn't exist anymore)? People don't want HD consoles because they don't own HDTV sets (again Nintendos strategy would be correct)? I really can't see how Wii wouldn't have killed the sales of the others, especially when competition isn't selling anywhere close to expectations and how Wii wouldn't have affected to slow sales, unless the market really crashed.

==> u assume Wii reduced Xbox360 sales before it was released ? ... I doubt about it.
Sometimes sales just slowdown because no games are released, summer.

In Japan : Wii say "hi !"

PAL : PS3 sales are about PS2 sales (I think)

so yes, PS3 selling slower than PS2 that is obvious. But PS2 was 1st console of past-gen sales while PS3 is only third (later second). I completely agree that competition (Wii360) is reducing PS3 sales.

I m not saying Wii is not affecting PS360 sales. I m just saying PS360 are selling WAY too well for 2nd and 3rd console. DC was completely killed by PS2, GC/Xbox were greatly inhibited. In fact, all the focus was on the PS2 and only on the PS2.

Now, the Wii is selling like hot cake since her release but in the same time (OUTSIDE of JAPAN), PS360 are selling VERY WELL despite their price (400$PS3, compared to the 250$ Wii). It is like the 2 consoles (Wii vs PS360) are selling to 2 different big markets allowing them to both surviving.

Just look at this : PS3, the third console is dramatically increasing her sales despite her slow start (slow start in console world = DEATH) :

At the contrary, GC/Xbox have reduced their sales progressviely with the time.

It means ALL the console are selling better than the last gen 1st/2nd/3rd console counterpart.

WHY ?

Because Wii expanded the market to casuals and non-gamers since DAY 1. This allow PS360 to focus on the western hardcore gamers market and to continue to sell very well despite their higher price.

For me, This gen is NOT like last gen. Definitively.

XBox 360 is cheaper in Europe than the Nintendo Wii. But the Wii is like around half the price of a PS3.
