Guys. Microsoft bought Rare. It was a matter of them having a lot more than Nintendo. Nintendo didn't want them to go. They were their best 3rd party developer at the time. Microsoft bought them as a way to undermine Nintendo. This is well known.

It worked GameCube flopped. A generation on Nintendo Wii has turned it around in a blink of an eye, Wii has bolted ahead of its competition.

Umm, so GameCube flopped because Nintendo lost Rare? And Wii now won because Nintendo still doesnt have Rare?

Brilliant logic.

I agree, the only game RARE developed for the Gamecube was Starfox Adventures which was alright but not great. So Nintendo let RARE go at the right time which was a shame because I loved Banjo Kazooie, Perfect Dark, etc.

haven't we had this discussion before?

If Nitnendo hadn't sold rare they would be making crap for Nintendo instead of microsoft.

(If anyone says otherwise then they have not played Perfect Dark Zero)

Rare was abandoned at the perfect time, when developers started to leave it. The games they would've released on Nintendo systems wouldn't have been the same. The quality just wouldn't have been there. The only reason I wish Ninty kept them was so that they could keep building upon the established games they had on the N64.

Nintendo was offered to buy the company first, and declined. That has been stated in interviews numerous times. The fact is, Nintendo was pretty ticked off by the lack of production from RARE in the gamecube years, so when the Stamper Brothers wanted to sell, the company was in trouble already.

I've only enjoyed one of their xbox games: Viva Pinata. And it could never sell well, if just because of their ecology system: Having carnivores meant that it was very hard to form any attachment with any animal. Everything else they've made since has been junk.

Banjo Kazooie 3 (Mario style of game) would of looked nice on the Nintendo Wii. Wii is the leading  Mario game console and Nintendo makes all the fun children's video games.

Did those who went to form FR leave before or after the takeover?

We can only hope that Banjo 3 will give Rare a fresh start and then they can have some respect again.

And what happened to that guy who made this wonderful music in Donkey Kong Country 2? Is he still working with Rare?
