Forums - Sales Discussion - Predictions - When Will PS3 overtake 360 WW?

@tyig : What is MS winning exactly ? Selling the same as a 400$ competitor with a 200$ product is not exactly a huge success.

Wii is far in front too, so is the PS2, so is the DS, so is the PSP.

Please enlighten, what did MS win exactly ? The right to recoup a small part of their xbox 1 losses ? Yeah...

@seece : thank you for the laugh too. I guess you must be sleeping with your 360.

It is when they make a profit. Microsoft is also making a much bigger killing on software sales, stop twisting everything to make out Sony is winning.

WHat exactly did I say to laugh at? I put forward fact and non crap. Whats with the sarcy comment? feel you're losing so already starting with the insults, be a bit more mature yeah?

MS still didn't recoup the billions of losses from xbox 1, seece, so there's no such thing as 'winning' right now.

The 'console war' is mostly in the fanboy heads anyway, the reality is both MS and Sony are doing okay, and Nintendo is making a killing right now.

Sony's strategy right now is 'maximize profit', MS strategy is 'gain market share', that's all. Both strategies are more or less succesful right now.

I worked in marketing, sales in themselves aren't that meaningful if you don't look at the price you sell things. Of course 149 $ consoles sell a lot, obviously...

But profit is, and microsoft are doing that plus gaining marketshare ... Sony are failing at both ...

lol, PS2 is last gen and almost dead.  Noone cares about PS2.  Microsoft has already won the HD war.  Sony has lost tons of money and a ton of fans. Microsoft is in a way better position for many reasons that I don't even feel like typing them.  (PS2....lol)  Sony fans getting desperate.  I'm a Nintendo fan, but I wouldn't try to justify something that was irrelevant to the context of this gen no matter how much I like Nintendo.  It's easy to see Sony is failing in their approach to the consumers this gen.  When the new wave of motion technology storms through sometime next year, then we'll see what happends, but until then Microsoft has nothing to worry about.  Also, if the situation was reversed I would say the same thing about Sony.  Facts are facts.  (lol, PS2)

@seece : my point is if you consider install base then PS2 wins, and if you consider a time frame from launch, then PS3 wins. Either way, Sony wins.

The question 'when will PS3 will overtake 360 in installed base ?' is not that relevant since the 360 itself is not even first in installed base to begin with. It's behind Wii, PS2 and even far behind handhelds like the DS or the PSP...

lol again, is this guy serious? talk about people being in denial

No they're not failing at all. PS3 is nearly profitable right now, so they're definitely achieving their goal. PS2 is still very succesful. PSP sold 50 million... PSP Go is coming... They're not failing at all, except on fanboy websites. The recession hurts, but it's the same for microsoft.

As soon as they can, Sony will change their strategy to 'gain market share' by cutting the price, and then you'll be amazed by the sales, while if you bothered looking before last september, you'd see it already happened and PS3 was killing the 360 in sales (WORLDWIDE SALES) before the price cut.

I think MS goal with the 360 early release was to kill the PS3. While they succeeded in taking a good market share, they didn't succeed in this goal. PS3 sold what ? More than 20 million, and only 8 million less that MS before the first price cut... This particular goal is a failure.

I suspect that's why you see such things like Avatars, Natal, 1vs100... Everything casual. Mostly, MS will try to take some of the Wii crowd now. On the hardcore exclusive content side, they just can't compete with Sony 20+ studios, they just don't want to buy studios, that's not their strategy...

The rest, failure / doom threads, that's in your head... PS3 and 360 are both successful. Part of your mistakes probably come from the fact you live in the US, where the 360 is dominating. The rest of the world begs to differ though... Here in Europe, PS3 already has the same installed base as the 360, so any PS3 price cut would put the 360 far behind, leaving only the US as a dominating country for the 360.

Now now Tony; what did we say about behaving around other children? Do you really want us to take away your PS3 again?
