Why would anybody even think it was a CD vs. DVD issue? The problem with the 40 gig isn't the optical drive not being able to read PS2 DVDs (or CDs as "Dogs Rule" verified) but the hardware not being able to software emulate PS2 architecture.
Ballony!!! When I put in a PS2 game I get the message: This model of PS3 system is not compatible with Playstation 2 software. No matter what game I put in then... I get nothing. Playstation 1 games do work though!
