Forums - Gaming Discussion - What are the best classic co-op games?

I thought I would start a thread about this because it could be quite fun to learn what co-op games people like to play. The games can be online or offline (with ya mates), old or new.

Here are two of my personal favorites...

Sunset riders

I'm sure that anybody who has played this game will agree that this is a good co-op game. In two-player mode it requires you to work well as a team, constantly looking out for each other and eliminating enemies that threaten the other. Basically you get to choose who you play as out of 4 cowboys and in each level you have to bring down criminals for the reward, it's essentially just head hunting. It gets quite intense and has an excellent learning curve. One of the most fun co-op games I have ever played.

Turtles in time

Ok, this one may not be classic co-op in some peoples opinions, but it is excellent to play when a few of your mates come round, you start to find that you are actually looking out for the other player as much as yourself. You are after Shredder but to get to him you have to travel to different times, to pirate ship and futuristic distopias. If you have never played this you are missing out, it is a lot of fun.

What co-op games do yoiu love? Tell us a little about what makes it a good co-op.

Cowboys of Moo Mesa.

We had two bags of grass, seventy-five pellets of mescaline, five sheets of high-powered blotter acid, a salt shaker half full of cocaine, a whole galaxy of multi-colored uppers, downers, screamers, laughers…Also a quart of tequila, a quart of rum, a case of beer, a pint of raw ether and two dozen amyls.  The only thing that really worried me was the ether.  There is nothing in the world more helpless and irresponsible and depraved than a man in the depths of an ether binge. –Raoul Duke

It is hard to shed anything but crocodile tears over White House speechwriter Patrick Buchanan's tragic analysis of the Nixon debacle. "It's like Sisyphus," he said. "We rolled the rock all the way up the mountain...and it rolled right back down on us...."  Neither Sisyphus nor the commander of the Light Brigade nor Pat Buchanan had the time or any real inclination to question what they were doing...a martyr, to the bitter end, to a "flawed" cause and a narrow, atavistic concept of conservative politics that has done more damage to itself and the country in less than six years than its liberal enemies could have done in two or three decades. -Hunter S. The Streets of Rage games were great co op brawlers.

Capcom released some awesome titles such as Final fight, the Punisher, Captain Commando and Cadilacs and Dinosaurs.

Honestly when I read the thread title and while the page was loading I thought to myself, Sunset Riders. As soon as it loaded there it was. You are amazing highwaystar!!!
Wow akuma thank you so much for reminding me of that series in general. I could never think of the name to save my life. And I even own action figures!
OT: I think Knights of the Round should get a nod. Secret of Mana as well to an extent.
