Forums - Sales Discussion - Wii Why?

I just dont get it.

Wii continues to sell like gangbusters, but honeslty at it's core promise it is failing.

Hear me out on why I say this.

In the past 6 months Nintendo has released some true blockbuster games and if you like those sort of games you should be in heaven, but the puzzling thing is these games really make little use of the Wii differentiator.  I am talking about the WiiMote.  One interesting thing of note about these games is either A they made little use of the WiiMote to actually make a drastic change in gameplay (SMG) or the games are actually better with either the classic controller or GCN controller (Mario Kart and SSBB).  Upcoming is WiiFit in which the star of the show is a new peripherial.  The last real good game that used the WiiMote extensivly was Metroid Prime 3.  What is the next one?

In fact what great games built for the Wii rely on the WiiMote to be great?  Seams to me the only possible answers to that question are WiiSports (Which I hardly find great) and Metroid Prime 3.

The second best rated game of all time is still the second best rated game of all time, regardless of whether or not it uses tons of waggle and pointing. And it does, by the way, use quite a bit of waggle and pointing.

Super Mario Galaxy used the pointer, even if you could have ignored it, I found it addicting to collect those star bits.

I agree about smash.

Mario Kart Wii uses the remote, but caters to the "hard core" gamers, who are stuck in the mud and can't adapt to new controllers. I personally will be using the motion controllers even if it means I'll suck online. I'll be having tons of fun.

Although it is a Sega game, Mario & Sonic use the motion controls too, and is selling great.

So 1 out of the 3 games that Nintendo has published recently has not used motion controlling or pointing. I don't see how you can claim Nintendo is failing at delivering motion control and pointing capabilities in its games.

EDIT: also, there are plenty of 3rd party games that have been released that are excelent and use motion controls or the pointing device.

If you drop a PS3 right on top of a Wii, it would definitely defeat it. Not so sure about the Xbox360. - mancandy

My claim isnt that they arent including it. My claim is that the motion controls are still either add on or make the game worse (SSBB, Mario Kart).

And I never said anything about selling great.

Well you have to understand that some games are an exception-like SSBB you need the GC because the past SSB games have been on a standard controller and taking that option away from the games would force gamer to get use to the new controler and it can alienate them. Also Sakurai the maker of SSBB said he didnt want to add motion control to the game because it be too much of a hassle.

Same for Mario Kart wii some people need are still very comfortable with the standard game pad. There are jst some games that dont make good use of the wii remote alone so they add the game cube and or the classic controller.
I really cant think of anything to ay for the Wii Balance Board except that is more of a peripheral than a new controller so i dont think it its going to affect the Wii controller.

So you're basing your conclusions on, what, four games?

Some pretty good games that make great use of the Wii Remote currently on the Wii:
Zack and Wiki
Metroid Prime 3: Corrutption
Excite Truck
Rayman Raving Rabbids 1 & 2
Resident Evil 4: Wii Edition
Warioware: Smooth Moves
Super Paper Mario
Okami
Dewey's Adventure
Elebits
Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix
Sonic and the Secret Rings

That's just naming a few off the top of my head. While they all may not be blockbusters, they are all at least decent games and make use of the Wii Remote.

Haven´t played brawl yet but MK is better with Wiimote SMG uses the wiimote if you care to bother you don´t have to you can.
