Forums - Gaming Discussion - 2020 is not normal

I live in one of the most hard hit countries and I can honestly say that this year has been almost exclusively positive for me. My introversion is no longer treated as weird, but as heroism, I work less and from home, despite my employer previously saying that was impossible. My lifestyle hasn't changed a bit.

The only negative thing I can think of is that I am currently unsure if my fully planned Japan trip this October is still gonna happen. And if it is not I'm gonna save a shit ton of money. Can't wait what cool things 2021 has in store for me.

Pretty similar for me. As I am a programmer, I can without problem work at home. But my employer was before not fond of this idea. Now I have no problem doing that. And as I am introverted as well, many of my social contacts are internet anyways. So yeah, I feel not too much constricted.

A pity about that Japan trip though. Maybe until October it is all over, we will see.

As a Xbox gamer I’m pretty content. Wife home because of the pandemic, more Xbox time, Xbox news is plenty and positive.

Xbox: Best hardware, Game Pass best value, best BC, more 1st party genres and multiplayer titles.

Yeah, I certainly have different expectations for this year. I'm probably going to focus on retro gaming and collecting this year... which is something I started doing a while back (so sort of a natural progression for me).

Some of these things these so called prophets say man.... I know if you spout enough bullcrap, eventually some of it turns out true.

"Horror, horror! The American brothers will fall after being attacked by the steel birds. The wolves will be howling in a bush, and innocent blood will be gushing." - Baba Vanga.  (if curiosmos.com is to be believed)

Supposedly thats her prediction of the 9/11 attack.

"As Vanga predicts, by 2023, humanity will experience drastic changes on the planet because Earth’s orbit will change drastically.

This unexpected cosmic change will affect the climate, oceans and much of nature. Vanga warns that humans will have a very difficult time coping with the changes."

^ from Curiosmos.

Meh. These people claiming to see the future.... I dont buy it.

*IF* in 3 years, something drastic happends to the earths orbit...... I might change my mind though.

We've got a stupid as fuck temp law here, where no one, and I mean no one, is allowed 6ft near one another. Stores are only allowing 5 people in at a time, no cash in hand allowed, have tow ear gloves, only one tin of soup per person (same for pasta), game stores temp closing down, night clubs/pubs shut down until further notice, and restaurants just flat out not serving, takeouts not taking cash in hand, as well as dropping the food at your doorstep, no matter the weather.

It's absolutely not normal at all, and it's starting to really piss me off. Like holy hell, I don't think I've ever had this much irl frustration in my entire life (I have outstanding bills to pay but no one will accept cash, and the banks are closed...wtf am I supposed to even do?).

Where are you?

Isle of Man.

We had one 1 case 14 days ago, which went to 5 cases 8 days ago, which is now at 7, with one in critical. Our island's Gov is operated by an MHK system (Member of the house of Keys, up to 24 total members to decide on laws), and they decided 6 days ago to enforce a state of emergency and a lockdown of all public and private services, until further notice.

I literally just got back from the local garage (petrol station), and there was a giant sign inside the store, with a bright light, that flashes when you're allowed inside. The two clearks were bothw earing masks/gloves, and even had glass screens in front of them, with a small slit underneath to accept cash, but even then they really try to get us to pay by card. Anyone who enters any store has to stay as far away from one another as possible.

We are no longer importing general goods from the UK (for the time being), such as eggs (for some fucked reason, so now we're stuck with Manx eggs, and it's £5 for a massive tray of them).

everywhere is practically quiet, save for some cars passing through, and ofc, the petrol station. We're a population of 80k+, but even I find this level of enforcement and safety measurements to being insane.

We can provide for ourselves with general things like Bread, milk, eggs, pork, lamb, veg etc, but we heavily rely on UK/US import for everything else.

Come to Brazil, then.

Here, the president treats the pandemic like a joke and all the politicians and rich people are making video pleas for people to go out on the streets and take kids to school and continue on living their lives normally - after all, in the words of one of these rich people, "the death of 5-7 thousand people is meaningless compared to the danger to the economy". Cool stuff.

Just stay at home, dude.

I wish. I just want this insanity to end. At first I was like "it's just one case over here, everything's gonna be honky doory. Then we're at 7 cases, with one fatal, and the whole gov just shits a brick.

I also need to find a new job, but yeah, all I'm gonna do is stay at home at this point. Thank god Resi 3 releases next Fri, and I'll hopefully be able to grab it digitally and just play that till this all blows over.

It's a bit funny when I think about it. Ever since this virus became big, I've started getting back into the Resi series, watching the movies, reading the lore, replaying REmake 2 etc.

That sounds very differnt from how things are in denmark.

Appart from hand sanitisers required used, before entery, and also after leaveing shops, and keeping good distances.... its almost like normal here.
Supermarkets are still fully stocked with everything ect, there arnt limits on what or how much you can buy. Also yes, they want card/plastic, instead of money in hand.

Yes night clubs/pubs are shut down, thats just good common sense.
Restaurants, still have take out here.... and dropping food at doorstep is smart.

"I don't think I've ever had this much irl frustration in my entire life"

You sound like you need that Corona beer more than the other guy.
Did you expect things to just go on as if absolutely nothing was going on, mid a pandemic?

40-60% of the worlds population might get this, and it'll kill untold numbers of the elderly.
Lots of young people will get scaring on their lunges, and be marked forever by it.

Our gov is run by multiple bodies, which means there was likely some skittish decisions made, once the case went from 1 to 5 in a matter of days. We only have one hospital, one airport and 1 main port (2 others for fishers), so our gov probably thought they had contamination containment sorted, but apparently not. Old folk here get easily fearful of even a boat delay (for imported foods), so I imagine they wigged out hard when they heard about those 5 cases, and probably pleaded to the gov via Facebook to do something (one of our MHK's is actually talking to us on FB, getting us all to participate in some online friendly quiz, which sounds daft, but it'll keep the old ones busy indoors).

I'm just ticked because I recently lost my job, then this lockdown happens, making it increasingly hard to find new work, when no one wants to accept at this point in time, as well as my bank flat out closing because of the virus, and no one wants to accept cash in hand for anything (save for the petrol station). combine all that and the stupid 6ft apart law (you can actually be arrested on sight for breaking it), and it becomes something irksome. I'm just used to popping up to the store to grab some cider and the like, but that's changed for now.

I expected things to go smoothly, when we had just one confirmed case, nearly 2 weeks ago, but now, eh, I'm not so sure, but I'm gonna have to stay indoors and just avoid that hysteria.

Also yeah, our island is composed of a lot of old people. Out of the 7 cases, one is fatal, and it's an elderly person.

You know what really sucks about this though?. I've got asthma, and I've not had to use an inhaler for years, but I know damn well that virus will definitely take harder toll on me, than most young folk out there.
