Forums - Sony Discussion - Why we cannot compare PS5 and Xbox series X directly, EDIT : add Resident Evil 3 remake and DOOM Eternal that run better on PS4 Pro as an example, also add EX- Crytek Developer and programer testimon

Not exactly. The Series X is stronger on paper and that’s all I need to know. We may not see a difference in gameplay but that’s not really the point.

Gen over gen this is an improvement for Xbox. And fans like yourself have to essentially work overtime (if you care enough) to convince masses online that TFs don’t matter. Fans like me have no such obligation and merely sit back and watch others combat a major marketing narrative by MS.

Teraflops don't matter, though, never mind allegiance. It's a number (I've been through this will all of my graphics threads on here and not a single user could tell which one of my 3D works had more teraflops [gigaFLOPS are actually what we go by on PC, but same principle] to pad them). Still, I have no stake in this 'console war' (especially with a device that does most things better), but it's telling that you say: "We may not see a difference in gameplay but that’s not really the point". That should be the point. What's on paper is on paper, but real world results are what actually drive things forward. It's like saying a Honda Civic has better specs on paper than a Toyota Corolla and that's all that matters, even if the latter is more reliable, gets better gas mileage/fuel efficiency, and sells more. No matter how much that Civic has the technical bragging rights, Honda will take notes on where they needed to focus.

When you remove a horse from the race, the clouds also begin to disappear.

Can we say instead that Flops matter, but they are not the only thing that matter?

Better question — what makes floating point operations/second so important? Pemalite and I have already given the reasoning why they don't matter, so for those that say otherwise, tell us why they do?

I seen thouse discussion and others from tech chanels and im on your side. But for thouse that dont and like you say dont understand and are just fighting for their side, they need something to hold on to.

Edit: not saying its a good reason just cuz they wont stop.

And we're trying to help them not try to hold on to air. :)

Just remember the topic intrinsic made, even if you praise both it dosent matter to some. You might be right.

Another example why TFLOPS are not everything . Even  both PS4 pro and Xbox One X has 42% gap, while PS5 and Xbox Series X is just only 15 % of TFLOP and both has advantage and disadvantage 9one is wide but slower and the other small but faster. Not include other factor like memory setup  etc etc. So the case is over everyone. You cannot compare the end result nor claiming which one is stronger. Because both are designed differently toward different goal.

Oh you’ll see a gameplay difference, even if it is a minor resolution bump or maybe a better or more stable frame rate. Barring shoddy optimization, of course. The only question is if those things still matter or if they’re like teraflops and are irrelevant this gen now that MS has a machine with more.

Well said. But until we do get multiplat to compare side by side the on paper is all we have to go on. The internet won’t wait another 8 months to have accurate comparison discussions, the arguments will merely change once those results are in.
And I completely agree, MS was wise to take notes from the early years of the current gen, it shows in the specs overall.

Xbox: Best hardware, Game Pass best value, best BC, more 1st party genres and multiplayer titles.

Teraflops are theoretical. They have never mattered in spec wars. Ever.

I am a PC gamer, I dislike all consoles equally... And thus don't have a bias towards any manufacturer.

Then you need to explain how they matter and what they are used for during a games rendering process.
When you can explain that... Then we can have a proper technical discussion on why they matter.

That's the point, a spec different is really important for developer, but how the spec utilize is another story.  Especially when both were design for diffrent method and different goal on rendering tech. Sony using low level API while Xbox most of the times using upper level API that can be used on PC as well. Sony dont need a raw power because their API and code run low level to the metal.
