Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Staring into the abyss of a world where Nintendo has no games scheduled for release. Edit: The Time of Darkness Has Arrived

"Smash Ultimate is a port" is the Nintendo version of "the Earth is flat" or "vaccines cause autism".

Why is Curl's post so liked? It's just trashing Nintendo. This place is weird.

I say the slightest thing of worry about Sony, and I get disliked into the abyss.

Curl shits on Nintendo and gets 8 likes.

This place is ridiculous.

To be frank it's not my best post nor one I'm particular proud of, as it was admittedly written in a moment of despair born of extreme anxiety, but I think the reason it resonated with so many is that a lot of people are so frustrated with Nintendo at the moment over the rather crappy way they're treating their fanbase by not announcing their 2020 schedule even three months into the year.

I meet everyone in the middle and call it an enhanced port

Mortal Kombat 11 is just a port of Mortal Kombat X.

Am I doing it right?

I guess so. :P

Is Splatoon 2 a port of Splatoon 1 then?

This " Smash ultimate is a port " takes me back 2 years ago .... Oh boy, how some people are still covered by illusions.

Next time, people are gonna argue Xenoblade Chronicles DE is actually an HD port of the original 😂

Oh god, don't even open that cans of worms, we've already had one thread yesterday derailed by people fighting over whether it's a remake or a remaster.

Wha-
Not only is the game improved visually, there is new fighters and modes.. literally 20-30 hours long adventure mode. So much more content, music, etc.
AND the gameplay/physics changed a little as well.. how can you say it's a port. A bomb remaster maybe that would have been a little more accurate.

You are often angry, you've jumped at me a few times, and you trash Nintendo just like that and people praise you for it. It's weird.

I never said that Smash Ultimate was a port of Smash U, I said it was a deluxe version, which you will have a very hard time convincing me of otherwise. I played Smash U competitively for years online, and I picked up Smash Ulitimate in a matter of seconds, it was as if I was playing the same game. You may argue that there are more fun features, more characters, but the game is essentially the same foundation, with some extras, in very much the same was as a Star Craft expansion, or a deluxe or definitive edition of a game, these days.

You are still upset at me for my belief in creationism, and for my fear of vaccines in the past. I never pretended to be an epidemiologist or doctor. It still doesn't give you a right to treat me like trash, and I don't think your attitude is any good. You need to learn to stop thinking so much higher of yourself than others. You're not better than anyone, and people will like you more for it.

Honestly, I don't even remember any altercations with you in the past besides the Smash one, and while I may disagree with you on that, it doesn't make me angry and I'm certainly not upset with you.
There's no need to turn this into a feud. Can we not just discuss the topic at hand?

I explained why that post was likely to have met with many agreements; many people are justifiably frustrated with Nintendo at the moment. If they come out with a general direct and announce a decent 2020 lineup, I imagine that frustration will evaporate.

Curl, you know that Nintendo has always had this kind of situation, and you know that they always end up delivering A+ game after A+ game. With a weak 3rd party support, as a game maker, they are incredible to be able to support their own platform almost all on their own.

You also know that they are hard at work on the next Metroid, and they often surprise us with new upcoming games we didn't expect. I remember when Donkey Kong Country returns was announced, only 3 months before it released.

I'm not saying you don't have a right to be frustrated, but you also need to remember the game maker you are a big fan of, and they never really let us down. Even in the most difficult times, we got Smash Melee, Wind Waker, Metroid Prime, Mario Sunshine, Skyward Sword, and many other great new IPs like Animal Crossing, Xenoblade Chronicles, and some from partners that Nintendo attracted to them, with games like the Last Story, Killer7, The Wonderful 101, Bravely Default and even big 3rd party games like Monster Hunter on 3DS.

Nintendo is great, not because they pretend to be great, they just are.

While I certainly agree Nintendo are overall great, I can't honestly say they always deliver for me. Most of the time, yeah, they do. Recently 2017 and 2019 for example were fantastic and delivered spades of awesome games.

They do also have their occasional slumps though, like 2016 and 2012, I'm just concerned this year will end up being one of those, especially as we could all do with something to distract and cheer us up at the moment. I could be totally wrong, but the uncertainty makes me uneasy and I'd love them to give us some reassurance that they're not asleep at the wheel.

They have a realistic release schedule that they have to work with, games take time to make.

Still, I heard that Animal Crossing was the game to play while we all slow down a little. And there are also things to do outside of video games when the world slows down, like going outside for walks and exploring our world. That is what Miyamoto was doing when he invented the idea for Zelda, and also for Pikmin.

I understand that droughts can be shitty, but in light of the times when the games library is strong it is a reasonable price to pay.

Under the circumstances I don't expect this year to be as packed as 2017 or 2019 but it'd be nice to finally get some footage of Bayonetta 3 or BOTW2 and releases windows for games like them, Doom Eternal, Outer Worlds, etc.

I'd just like some stuff to look forward to this year and an idea of what their schedule will look like, a lot of fans feel the same.

At this stage I am just looking forward to Breath of the Wild 2.
