Different departments have different budgets, and PS does much better than Xbox, so yes they would have more money to use to ensure they have a lower price to sell more. Even more when MS is moving away from selling HW as their focus and going for service.

I agree, my point is not that different departments don't have different budgets it's that since Playstation accounts for most of Sony's profits at this point, Xbox is not the same to Microsoft so thus Sony has to make sure, more than Microsoft, that this launch isn't botched. The PS3 did a number on Sony, and by the skin of their teeth they recovered. If Xbox has a botched launch Microsoft won't sweat it. Yeah, it would be terrible but nowhere near as devastating as a PS3 level event. I am well aware that these are separate divisions which is why it is so important to Sony to make the right move more than it is for Microsoft to.

Well considering the part that PS is more important to Sony than Xbox is for MS then the scenario is a little different than you imagine. It would mean that Sony would bet more on PS and willing to sacrifice as much as needed to ensure they have a good launch and speed sales just like PS4 strategy where they were clear on the first 3 years that the objective was to speed up system sells (CEO openly said they were more focused on the number sold than making profit on the HW). And later on they stoped giving pricecuts because they had achieved their best projections.

I must admit, it's still kinda disappointing to me that Sony/MS seem eternally set on the path of incremental hardware upgrades; that's a big part of why I prefer Nintendo, they almost always try something new and fresh in terms of hardware and controllers, and while that doesn't always work out, when it does we get systems like Wii and Switch that are just so much more exciting to me than a standard console with better graphics.

I guess I'm just not Playstation or Xbox's target audience any more.

On the HW front I never seem so much new features announced as Xbox done with their system. And PS 3D audio and SSD solution are very fresh.

For me the main thing is the controllers though; PS/Xbox seem set on sticking eternally to a standard circa 1997 dual analogue controller which just feels so outdated to me at this point.

On that front sure Nintendo is the one that change the most every gen. Still I love the DS layout and every gen the improvements just made me like it more (to the point I feel odd holding even a PS3 controller, but not any Nintendo or Sega controllers since they always changed a lot for me).

I know most Xbox/PS fans are probably quite happy with the ways things are and want it to stay the same, which is way I said I'm just not their target audience any more, but ever since the Wiimote, I want more. But yeah, I feel like I'm dragging this off topic now, sorry.

Obviously they aren't going to forward project 100 million. However what they will project is higher yearly console sales, which again goes to the general rule of larger volumes reducing average price.

That is what you are claiming though... That because YOU believe that Sony is going to sell 100~ million consoles they will get a cheaper price.

Don't back track now.

Well yes that point was wrong. But at this moment of negotiation all parts of PS5 would probably be bought for a little less than Xbox Series X because by their historic Sony will have higher purchase orders than MS (even more if Lockhart is a thing and MS wants Series X to be like X1X). That is a reason why I expect PS5 to undercut XSX by 50-100. Now the question is can they get under 450 or to 400 or if Lockhart at under 300 will have a lot of leeway and then be a big seller for most people that don't really care about having most performance and like the best bang for your buck.

We don't know yet.
Microsoft and Sony have their own individual contracts... And neither company is privy to each others cost structures, Microsoft may have better deals in place or might be offering cross-deals. (I.E. Cheaper access to Azure for example.)

It's all well and good to speculate, but it's also okay to say "we simply don't know" rather than assert an opinion as fact.

So @Pemalite now that we have spec sheets for both systems, what's your take on what they mean in terms of comparative real world performance, as one of our resident tech experts?
